Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are married! ICYMI, the couple tied the knot at Madison Square Garden on July 3 — complete with a star-studded guest list. And while the wedding itself has been very under wraps, fans believe Swift has been leaving hints about her future wedding in her lyrics throughout the years.
Fans were initially divided when rumors of the nuptials broke, with many believing that the MSG wedding was a “decoy” so that Swift and Kelce could tie the knot in secret, and others saying that a massive and iconic venue like MSG makes sense for the two superstars. But after Swift’s team confirmed the July 3 wedding, fans flooded social media to celebrate — and, of course, started looking for clues in Swift’s music about her wedding day. And, honestly? They might be onto something.
Now, of course, a lot of the lyrical Easter eggs fans have pointed out could just be coincidences — but when it comes to Swift, you can never be too sure. (This is the woman who wrote “Mastermind,” after all.) Since the wedding was confirmed, fans have been going back through Swift’s discography and finding lyrics that may have pointed to a July wedding at MSG all along.
Perhaps the most-cited lyric by Swifties, “The Lucky One” from Swift’s album Red, has been making the rounds on social media, since it directly references her wedding venue. She sings, “Chose the rose garden over Madison Square.” While “The Lucky One” is about wanting to choose a quiet, private life (a rose garden) over fame and spectacle (Madison Square Garden — which is, of course, a massive venue), fans can’t help but clock the coincidence. Not to mention, Swift apparently transformed the venue into a literal indoor garden — which gives a whole new meaning to the lyrics.
Additionally, fans noticed the lyrics, “After the storm, something was born on the Fourth of July / I’ve passed days without fun, this endgame is the one / With four words on the tip of my tongue,” from Swift’s song with Ed Sheeran, “End Game,” which appears on her album Reputation.
While the lyrics were sung by Ed Sheeran, he wrote the song in collaboration with Swift — so I’ll count it. Fans noticed that it was storming heavily in NYC on the day of the wedding (July 3) — however, there was a gorgeous, glowing sunset afterward. Fans also clocked that the last time Swift spent a July 4 weekend single was days before her Kansas City show, which Kelce attended in hopes of shooting his shot. Wild.
A coincidence, or further proof that Swift is always thinking a million steps ahead? You decide!
