Anyone who knows me knows how much I love a good book. I’m often a sucker for a romantic comedy, but I’ve also been known to dabble in the occasional thriller that keeps me on the edge of my seat. Point being, I like a book that makes me want to go home and start reading. Many of these also have screen adaptations on the way, so get ahead of the craze while you still can! These are just a few of my favorites:
- Yesteryear
-
Everyone and their mother has heard about this book. A soon-to-be film produced by and starring Anne Hathaway, Yesteryear had me clinging onto the edge of my seat for dear life, leaving me unable to put it down. I can’t even begin to tell you the plot because I don’t want to give you any spoilers, but it’s stayed firmly planted on the New York Times Bestseller list for a reason.

This is a constant favorite that I pick up about twice a year when I want a feel-good piece of text. It’s incredibly well-written, full of great characters, and the perfect blend of a classic big-city and small-town romance. It’s also Emily Henry, and you can never ever go wrong with a little, or a lot, of Miss Henry. This is also getting a film adaptation!
- The Nightingale
-
A soon-to-be production starring none other than Dakota and Elle Fanning, this tale of two sisters during WWII is gripping, historical, and timeless. This is a great pick if you’re looking for some historical fiction!
- In a New York Minute
-
I always love a good city-based romance novel, and this one is perfect if you’re looking for a romantic city escape within the comfort of your own home. It’s a fun, easy read that made my summer just a bit brighter.
- I Didn’t Know I Needed This
-
Surprise, surprise, Bella’s recommending yet another Eli Rallo read. There is nothing wrong with a little self-help novel in the midst of your other summer picks. This was the perfect introduction into essay collections tailored specifically toward college girls with an abomination of Hinge matches. Eli’s hilarity and relatability are threaded beautifully throughout this book. Highly recommend!
- The House Across the Lake
-
I’ve recently started to dip my toes into the waters of the thriller genre, and I have loved it so far! I read this book about two summers ago, and it has stuck with me ever since. Based largely in realism, with a few fantastical elements, this book had me on the edge of my seat, constantly surprising me with unexpected plotlines.
- In Five Years
-
Talk about a book that took me completely by surprise in every way! I will be honest, this one gets a bit sad, but I really was unable to put it down.
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
-
This adaptation is soon to be directed by Anna Kendrick! This is one of my favorite books of all time. It flashes between the past and present, leaving you desperate to turn the page. I cannot stress how beautiful this book is. This is a must read!
