Skincare is huge right now. You may be seeing anti-aging products, dark circle treatments, wrinkle refining serums and many more. But I often ask myself, am I too young? When should I start? Do I need certain treatments if I don’t have the issue at hand?

It’s never a bad idea to start researching and purchasing anti-aging cosmetics. More specifically, preventative skin products are just what they are- preventative. Tackling the issue before it gets a head start can be very worth it in the long run. Many dermatologists say that it’s a good idea to use anti-aging products in your 20s and most definitely in your 30s. Taking care of your skin is extremely important for your body inside and out, and doesn’t have to focus on just your face, either.

Have you ever heard, your hands are the first thing to age? A little trick I learned while developing my skincare routine is that you never wipe away the excess of skincare products- always use the excess of your product on your hands like moisturizer. You’ll never waste a drop of your pricey skincare (oh yes, it can get pricey!) and your hands will get the same benefits as your face.

There are some products that may not have “anti-aging” all over the bottle, but do, however, contribute to preventing wrinkles, elasticity and dark spots. Sunscreen is a crucial part of your routine, rain or shine. Yes, those harmful UV rays from our depleting ozone layer are still passing through and damaging to your skin. Applying sunscreen daily will significantly reduce the chances of skin cancer. This product by CeraVe ($22, Amazon), specifically for the face, is everywhere and a plain and simple sunscreen. Don’t try to look for the more expensive, a basic and affordable one will do just the job.

Under-eye wrinkles are everyone’s biggest concern and there are plenty of products in the market to help combat them. My favorite lightweight and barely-there anti-aging eye cream I apply before bed is by RoC ($17, Amazon) and super affordable! I apply it every night on my under eyes and eyelids. Be careful when applying, products like these can be very dangerous if they get into your eyes.

It may take longer to notice a difference when using anti-aging products made for wrinkles. But when it comes to serums, I notice a difference in my complexion in terms of texture, brightness and acne scars. Mario Badescu’s Super Peptide Serum ($45, Ulta) is one of the best I’ve used, giving my skin the hydration and clarifying conditioning it needs at the end of the night. It’s also quick and easy to apply with simple motions of pressing your fingertips into your skin- this allows for more absorption.

In the midst of all your anti-aging applications, don’t forget to throw in an exfoliator that will get rid of any dead skin cells, allowing for newer and healthier skin to shine through. After you exfoliate, the product will apply more evenly. I use Mario Badescu’s Botanical Exfoliating Scrub ($26, Nordstrom), which gives me the smoothest and shiniest skin.

Don’t let all these products you see overwhelm you while creating your perfect anti-aging skincare routine. Finding basic products that entail safe ingredients and work for preventative aging purposes are all you need if you want to be ahead of the game.
