If you have an upcoming summer birthday, and you don’t know what party theme to commit to, here are some ideas for your next themed summer birthday party.
- H2O: This theme works for any age, and it is so fun! It can be based on the show H2O: Just Add Water or just have basic mermaid decorations. If you want to go the simple minimalistic route, then have a color scheme of pastel blues and purples. Blue and purple balloons, plates, and streamers will do the trick! If you are looking to go all out, have a table with themed dishes, snacks, and drinks. For example, you could call blue punch “ocean water.” There are many different decor options for this style of party. Mermaid tails are a must! Metallic decorations, like a holographic tablecloth will really make the party come alive. If you want to add a dress code, you can ask people to just match the color scheme or have people dress like their favorite H2O character. Bonus points if you make it a pool party!
- Fancy Nancy: This theme has been trending on social media for a while now, but it is a perfect theme for a summer party. In order to have a Fancy Nancy party, it has to be super whimsical. All of your childhood favorites, treats, and snacks. Don’t forget to invite all of your stuffies! For decor, rainbow paper chains are a must, along with colorful banners and disco balls scattered around the venue. The dress code should be all fun patterns and feather boas. Decorating paper crowns is a fun activity to have for your guests that really adds some whimsy to the party.Â
- Summerween: This theme is a little more niche, and can be done a few different ways. My favorite way to throw a summerween party is to have an 80s summer camp slasher theme. Have everyone dress up in their best camp outfits, and bonus points if you can get each guest a custom camp shirt. If you have a yard at your venue, it would be fun to have some camp games like tug-of-war. To make this theme a little more authentic, have people spend the night at the venue. Make little keychains with their “bunk assignments” and have a slasher movie night. Friday the 13th absolutely must be watched. There doesn’t need to be much decorating for this theme if you’re going the camp route. If you’re just doing a basic halloween party with a summer flair, then orange, purple, and black would be a good color scheme.Â
- Midnight Sun: This theme is based off of the song “Midnight Sun” by Zara Larson. This is a very bright and fun theme. Bright neon oranges, pinks, and blues would be a good color scheme. This is also a very beachy theme, with hibiscus flower decorations and luau-style decor. Have everyone dress in their best Zara Larsson themed festival outfit. Looking at Pinterest for dress code ideas can be helpful as well. It would also be cute to have glitter tattoos for the guests. Fun glasses or cups for the drinks would be another fun touch, and don’t forget to add little drink umbrellas. Bonus points for playing Zara Larson.
5. The Summer I Turned (Age): This one is all based on the show The Summer I Turned Pretty. This theme should have beachy, coastal vibes. Pastel pink and blue is a good color scheme. Remember to add in some pink bows wherever you can, maybe on your cake or to hold together cutlery. Make sure your playlist for this party contains a lot of Taylor Swift. Have everyone dress in their best beach outfits. This party can have a more formal dress code. This theme can also be turned into a simple dinner party where everyone sits at a table. For this route, you could create a menu on Canva and print it out to set on the table. It would also be really cute to either have a painted banner or balloon garland that says “The Summer I Turned” followed by your age. It adds a cute little personal touch to the decor!
These are just some of the themes you could do for your summer birthday party! It is important to be creative and add your own flair to the party. Make it all about you because, after all, you are the birthday star!
