Dove Cameron is one of the most loved actresses from Disney Channel, she was able to touch our hearts with her music and that beautiful voice. On April 2 of 2021, she released her new single “LazyBaby”, exposing her bruises after a break up. Dove dated Thomas Doherty for almost 4 years but didn’t share the feelings with her fans until she decided it was time to reveal everything and write a song about it, so it could help her to understand what she was going through and move on. What most don’t know is that the star doesn’t like to write and listen to sad songs because of her difficult past, but let’s recap:

Childhood

Chloe Celeste Hosterman was born on January 15 of 1996, in Seattle, Washington. She used to live with her older sister, Claire Hosterman, and her parents Philip Alan Hosterman and Bonnie Wallace. But they broke up when Chloe was only 14 years old. This was a sad time in her family, especially because her father killed himself after came out as gay and got into a deep depression. After this experience, the star decided to change her name to “Dove”, in honor of him, who used to call her that when she was little. When a fan calls her that, she feels like he is talking.

At school, Dove was bullied, and until the fifth grade, her classmates mocked her for wanting to be an actress, saying she would never be able to reach this dream. But Dove’s life isn’t just tears, she spent happy times living in France and India, as her parents had a jewelry store there. Actually, it was them who encouraged her to follow the artistic career and become an actress, model, singer, and songwriter… wow, it’s a lot.

How Everything Started: From Unknown To A Success

Dove started her career from a young age when she worked in local productions in the city where she grew up, Bainbridge Island. Her love for music comes from her sister who currently works as a singing teacher in Los Angeles.

In 2012 she achieved her greatest success: being the lead actress in Disney Channel’s series: Liv and Maddie. On July 19, 2013, the series premiered hit an audience record, previously owned by “Shake It Up”, starring Zendaya and Bella Thorne. At the same time, she covered the song “On Top Of The World” by Imagine Dragons and spent approximately 3 weeks at the top of Billboard. Also in 2014, she released her first album “Liv and Maddie: Music from the TV Series” which came second on Billboard Kids.

She did a part on “Barely Lethal” in 2015 and was later contested to star in “Descendants”, which are 3 films,  telling the story of the children of Disney villains, and Dove played Mal, the daughter of Maleficent. In 2016 she returned to the theater acting on Hairspray as Amber Von Tussle. The production was nominated for the MTV Movie & TV Awards in the category “Best Musical Moment”, for the song “You Can’t Stop The Beat”. In 2018 she played Cher Horowitz in the Broadway musical based on ”Clueless”. In the same year, she played a character in the Netflix movie “Dumplin”.

Of course, her career does not stop there, but these are some of her biggest successes.

LazyBaby: The Other Side Of Dove Cameron

Dove started her musical career from an early age and in 2016 she even started a band with her boyfriend of the time, Ryan McCartan, and signed with Columbia Records after the band ended. Now, in addition to her acting career, Cameron focuses on her musical career, releasing several songs such as: “We Belong”, “Remember Me” and ”Waste”.

The most recent was “LazyBaby”, which has a sad story behind it but brings out a different side of the singer, who doesn’t like sad songs. Her break up with Thomas Doherty is the inspiration, but the reason why they decided to take different paths was not revealed. The couple met in 2016 during the shooting of Descendants 2 and had been together since 2017, ending in October 2020. Characterized as “extremely difficult”, Dove wrote the song about the break up with the actor as a closer, since she was going through hard times. The music marks the passage of Dove from the past, to its new “her”. That is why the single is so upbeat with dark lyrics.
