Since its series debut on Amazon Prime in early May, Off Campus has received the internet’s stamp of approval for its deeply relatable protagonists, indie soundtrack, and incredible couples’ chemistry. The series, adapted from Elle Kennedy’s novel, The Deal, attracted book fans as well as non-readers to the steamy hockey romance. The eight episode order proved its popularity early on, climbing to number one on the streaming service and gaining an early season two renewal. This feat is no stranger to Prime’s sterling reputation with book-to-screen adaptations, as the service has notably been home to other “BookTok” famous novels, including The Summer I Turned Pretty and We Were Liars. The binge-ability of Off Campus has fans left desperate for more, but fortunately Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells aren’t the only book characters being brought to life this summer. While season two of the series is beginning production, there is still a plentiful list of book-to-screen adaptations to hold fans over in the meantime.

The Devil Wears Prada 2, out now in theaters

Before it was a blockbuster hit starring the likes of Meryl Streep and Anne Hathway, this cult classic was originally a novel by Lauren Weisberger. The sequel, which released in theaters May 1st, loosely follows the book Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. While both films take creative liberties with Andy’s character and relationships, the themes of the battle for autonomy and dominance for women within a corporate sphere are present within all versions of the story. Similar to the initial novel, the movie uncovers the complexity of Andy’s relationships with Miranda and Emily, the two women she admires and betrays the most over the course of both films.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, Season Two, out now on Netflix

Based on the best-selling young adult series written and now directed  by Holly Jackson, protagonist Pippa Fitz Amobi (Emma Myers) trades her ordinary life for one of danger. The story becomes a thrilling adventure when she takes on the task of solving the mystery of a classmate’s murder to clear the name of an old friend. Her exploration of this case causes her to become an internet sensation, with cases pouring in for her to solve. But unlike the personal distance  from her famed case, this season Pip is tasked with tracking down her close friend’s older brother after a mysterious disappearance. With her boyfriend and partner-in-crime, Ravi (Zain Igbal), by her side, the season is expected to tackle teen romance as well as the darker storylines this series has to offer.

Your Fault, London, June 17th on Prime

An adaptation of Mercedes Ron’s Culpables trilogy, Your Fault: London is a sequel to the 2025 film My Fault: London and will follow the events of the second novel. Starring singer-songwriter Asha Banks as Noah and Globe Theater star Matthew Broome as Nick, the movie follows the forbidden romance between the two teenagers as life gets in the way of their plans. Since her move to London in the previous film, Noah embarks on a new chapter at Oxford, causing distance and jealousy to cause a strain on her relationship with Nick.

Every Year After, June 10th on Prime

Based on Carley Fortune’s best-selling novel Every Summer After, this series follows old flames Persephone and Sam and their reunion after a decade apart. Growing up in lakeside homes in Barry’s Bay, Toronto, Percy and Sam grew to be close friends and then something more in their teenage years, until a devastating breakup forced them apart. Following the untimely death of Sam’s mother, the pair must navigate their feelings for each other alongside the distance that has grown between them. Starring names from Saltburn, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and Chicago Fire, the series is anticipated to be Prime’s new summer romance hit.

The Five Star Weekend, July 9th on Peacock

Famous for her summer reads, this marks the second Elin Hilderbrand book to obtain a limited series order. The life of food influencer Hollis Shaw (Jennifer Garner) is seemingly perfect until the unexpected death of her husband. Determined to make use of her grief, Shaw invites four of her closest friends from different chapters of life on a luxurious weekend getaway. Despite her best efforts, the Nantucket trip explodes into a whirlwind of drama, with deep secrets revealed and a shocking visit from her first love. The eight episode miniseries will explore the depths of platonic, romantic, and familial love as Hollis rebuilds her life from the ground up.

The Odyssey, July 17th in theaters

A classic from high school English class, this epic tale has been refurbished with a star-studded cast under the direction of Christopher Nolan. The timeless story follows Odysseus (Matt Damon) and his voyage home to Ithaca after being lost at sea for many years. Additionally, Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland star as his wife and son, Penelope and Telemachus, who are forced to carry out their ordinary lives despite their disbelief of Odysseus’ “death”. Filmed entirely on IMAX cameras, the film promises visually stunning storytelling with blockbuster potential.

Even beyond the summer craze of new films and television shows, book-to-screen adaptations are slated to dominate the entertainment industry this year. With authors like Ali Hazelwood and Suzanne Collins gaining feature films from their original works, it is clear that adaptations are far more than a seasonal trend. Boosting the sales of both paperbacks and movie tickets, book-to-screen adaptations continue to generate a plentiful audience that is beneficial to both industries. And beyond big bucks, hits like Off Campus have a potential to reach unexpected audiences and encourage non-readers to expand their horizons.
