If you’re on the hunt for delightful vegetarian and vegan dining options in Leeds, look no further! This list features some fantastic food spots that cater to plant-based eaters, with a mix of exclusively veggie establishments and those that also serve meat. Regardless, each restaurant offers genuinely delicious food that goes well beyond the last resort of cheesy chips or dry bean burgers that most restaurants have on offer.

Bundobust – Bundobust has locations in Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool, and is an exclusively vegetarian Indian restaurant. With a small-plate concept, Bundobust lets you try a variety of menu options in one sitting. Their mango lassi was the best, creamiest smoothie I have ever had, and it had the cutest little multicoloured sweets on top. The drink was a perfectly complementary pairing with the Bundochat, making it a light and delicious lunch option.

Hyde Park Book Club – A beloved gem in the Headingley area, Hyde Park Book Club offers an all-vegetarian menu, and I respect their commitment to being meat-free despite their general popularity. While I initially frequented this spot for its cocktails in the evening, once I entered my second year of university and started living in the Headingley area, I realised I actually prefer the vibes during the day. The relaxed ambience, complete with a cute outdoor seating area (perfect for summer days), makes it an ideal place to unwind, do uni work, or read a book. One of my favourite options is their bagels; their veggie sausages are also amazing, and you won’t even think they’re meatless.

Tada  – Tucked away in Headingley, Tada is an independent restaurant and bar that specialises in ramen. Their tofu ramen is a standout, rivalling any I’ve tried in Leeds! The spicy tofu ramen, served in a rich miso broth, is my personal favourite, but their menu also includes wholesome rice bowls and veggie sushi options. On a quiet day, the cosy atmosphere allows you to fully enjoy your meal without distractions. While the prices are comparable to larger ramen chains like Wagamama’s, the exceptional quality and portion sizes at Tada make it a superior choice in every way.

The Med – Specialising in Greek cuisine, this restaurant offers an enticing selection of halloumi dishes, despite serving meat. The Med is an excellent vegetarian dining experience, and I have gotten this a few times after a night out. For just over £10, the portion size is very reasonable, and the gyros are really good quality. I always get the halloumi option and make sure you get extra Med Sauce! Overall, The Med offers a sloppy good gyro, perfect to grab after clubbing, or on the Otley Run.

Philapita – Nestled within the Leeds University union, Philapita stands out as a top pick for my lunch when on campus. This food stand has a predominantly plant-based menu, allowing diners to craft their own meals with a Mediterranean flair. The atmosphere is welcoming, and you can choose from an array of fillings for your wraps and hummus bowls. Two must-try items on the menu are the vegan kebab and the falafel wrap. I personally always get mine with the green chilli sauce and almost burn my face off every time, so do be warned. At just £5.50 per person, the generous portion sizes ensure you get excellent value for your money.

Wawin Vegan Chinese – This classic Chinese takeaway offers an innovative twist on the experience with a fully vegan menu. Wawin has several locations throughout the country, with a branch situated in Woodhouse. With a diverse selection of dishes, Wawin is an excellent choice for those craving classic traditional takeaways. They cover all the Chinese takeaway favourites, all made with fresh, quality vegan ingredients that cater to both vegans and non-vegans alike.

Farmhouse – In the centre of Leeds, Farmhouse is one of my new favourite brunch spots in Leeds, and is very vegan-friendly with lots of variety. It is a very popular choice for good reason, even with a queue outside the door at the weekends. The food is very fresh with strong plant-based options on the menu. My personal recommendation is the shakshuka, which is topped with halloumi. The interior is very cosy, stylishly decorated with lots of plants, and has a nice, friendly bustle.
