With each new era, Olivia Rodrigo has seemed to tailor her style to fit the aesthetic of her album. Although many facets of her style carry over from one era to the next, her fashion tends to shift with her art.
In her debut album, SOUR, Rodrigo targeted many trends at the time: pleated skirts, fishnets, and chunky Doc Martens. This “era” was known for the striking purple that matched the album’s cover, and many fan edits tended to blend that in, all coated in angsty teen.
As Rodrigo shifted from her debut album to her sophomore album, GUTS, we saw a notable change in style and color. She embraced the coming-of-age that came with the album and began wearing clothes that accentuated it. During this time, she rocked red, wore patterns like stars and polka dots, showed a bit more skin, and embraced the rockstar vibe.
Throughout each season, we’ve seen Rodrigo embrace grunge and edge, while maintaining a feminine undertone, but with her new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love on the way, a whole new look has entered her closet, and I’m obsessed.
Rodrigo is embracing her femininity without restraints for this new album. Splotching cities like LA and Paris, with pink walls displaying her initials. Fans immediately began to prepare for Olivia Rodrigo 3 (OR3).
Then, pink lockets were scattered throughout different cities. Heart shapes formed each locket, only heightening the romantic vision she was starting to paint. In an interview with Vogue, Rodrigo was seen wearing a pink dress with a white collar, little red hearts, and puff sleeves.
In the interview, she says, “I really wanted to figure out a way to kind of write about joy.” Pieces coming together. The softness and femininity that the easter eggs gave fans.
Finally, on April 2, she released her album cover, and her dress matches every hint she sprinkled. She’s seen wearing a baby pink dress, with a white Peter Pan collar, white capped sleeves, and Mary Jane heels accented with ankle socks.
Rodrigo announced the style she would be sporting with her new music loud and clear: feminine, soft, and bold.
In the music video of her debut single “drop dead,” Olivia wears a Chloé 2026 pre-fall baby doll top with ruffle baby blue bloomers to match. The ruffles and flouncy features of the outfit align with the song’s lovestruck lyrics.
Throughout interviews, photoshoots, and album pictures, some facets of her new look remain consistent. In many of her outfits, she’s wearing pastels, Peter Pan collars, baby doll silhouettes, knee socks, and Mary Janes or ballet flats.
Rodrigo’s current Instagram profile picture is a Blythe doll, which correlates to many of the pieces she’s worn over the past few months. The look she appears to be aiming for is very doll-like and seems to be a slight homage to the twee look of the 2010s. The silhouettes, however, are a direct reflection of the baby doll styles seen in the ‘50s and ‘60s.
Additionally, the era seems to draw inspiration from Sofia Coppola’s movies like The Virgin Suicides and Marie Antoinette with the soft, feminine details. Fans have pointed out that many scenes in her new music reflect the work in the Marie Antoinette film.
When taking inspiration in that way, we can also see it has sunk into her fashion. The baby blue, the ruffles, the flouncy fabric, she’s channeling it all.
Olivia is never afraid to make a bold statement with her fashion. Within this era, she seems to be saying that femininity doesn’t equal meekness. Additionally, she’s never afraid to add in splashes of grunge that dig back to her roots.
With this album and upcoming tour on its way, there’s no doubt that she’ll be rocking her new doll-like look in full swing.
