Fetty Wap is set to headline the University of Maryland’s 42nd annual Art Attack on May 1 alongside student opener dj kobra, as well as artists Kaliii and Charlotte Lawrence at Xfinity Center.

Fetty Wap came up in SEE Concerts Director Alex Atherton’s research as she looked for artists releasing new music who were interested in performing in Spring 2026.

“With the resurgence of 2016, Fetty Wap seemed like the perfect person to bring to campus,” said Atherton.

Rapper Fetty Wap became popular in 2014 for multiple hit singles, including “Trap Queen,” “679” and “My Way.”

Atherton said that every concert director does Art Attack differently, but she conducted research within the university’s community in the fall semester through surveys posted on SEE’s Instagram, fall events, UMD student organizations and UNIV100 classes.

“These surveys not only asked participants about artists they wanted to see, but also provided insight on the genres the UMD community was interested in,” she said.

“Being selected for the event made me feel like the work I put in over the past year has finally paid off in the biggest way,” said dj kobra. “I’ve made the transition from bedroom DJ to a real performer.”

dj kobra, was one of five student DJs who competed in UMD’s Battle of the DJs competition, for a spot in Fetty Waps’s opening performance.

Senior Caitlyn Marie, majoring in Psychology and Criminology is also looking forward to the performance.

“I was actually so excited to see it announced because I listened to him a lot in middle school,” she said. “I definitely think it’s a good way to end my senior year.”

Brian Aguilar, a freshman majoring in Public Health, is ecstatic.

“I’ve been listening to Fetty Wap since I was a kid,” he said. “With the artist being so nostalgic in a way, it brings back so much excitement.”

The event, sponsored by The Alloy, Glow, Tempo, The Highline and Raising Cane’s, is open to the UMD community and the general public. The event is set to start at 8 p.m. with line up starting as early as 6 p.m.
