I’ll Be There For You

Morgan Kilger Student Contributor, St. Bonaventure University
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

Every college alumnus’s story always involves a friend whom they met in college, and they have been inseparable since then. I didn’t think that was true for the longest time, literally until this past week.

Her name is Belle, and we have been friends since our sophomore year, but we didn’t become close until last Halloween. We met through being on the editorial board together for the school newspaper. If I remember correctly, I asked her if she wanted to go to the St. Patrick’s Day darty (day-party) with me, and the rest is history.

We have been through a lot together, especially in the last year. There’s been a lot of love, loss, and heartbreak between us, but there’s also been double the amount of smiles and laughter.

Smiling with her makes the hardest day exponentially better.

Whenever one of us has an issue that goes beyond the advice of parents or partners, we go to each other. We hold each other’s hands through those situations and celebrate each other’s victories.

Speaking of, she is one of my biggest fans. When it came time for this semester’s dance show, Belle couldn’t go when everyone else in our group was going. Instead of calling it a wash and telling me she would just watch it on YouTube, she chose to buy a ticket and go on closing night.

When she told me she was going on closing night, I wanted to cry; it was so sweet. Initially, everyone who would have been going “for me” went opening night, nobody for closing. When she told me about purchasing her ticket, she told me that now someone was cheering me on for the last show I’ll dance in.

I could see her smiling and beaming every time I was on stage — especially during senior dance and senior speeches.

This year, we live together. Our townhouse is chaotic in the best ways, but we somehow find peace within each other. We both like to do our own thing sometimes, and we like to do it together. I love our Sheetz trips or going to Hobby Lobby to make our own Spring Weekend shirts.

Besides our sentimental times, we have had our “did that really happen” moments as well. I believe the most chaotic one was sophomore year, when we went to a function held on campus. I threw it, but I didn’t live there.

All I’m going to say is: Candy corn in the vents.

I love my friendship with Belle. It’s something I’m going to cherish for the rest of my life and hope I never let go of. Funny enough, she is sitting across from me as I’m writing this. We’re watching Gossip Girl and are shocked that the characters are only 17.

Morgan is a second-year writer and co-social media chair for St. Bonaventure University’s chapter of Her Campus, and is very excited to continue writing about what she is passionate about. This includes: mental health, pop culture, academic tips, and life experiences. She is also excited to be part of the executive board this year and help bring HCSBU to life on social media.

Outside of Her Campus, you can find Morgan as Communications Officer for SBU College Democrats, a student ambassador, and dancing with the SBU Dance Team. As for her studies, she is a senior history and women’s studies double major with a political science minor. Morgan aspires to work in a museum or university archive.

In her free time, Morgan enjoys being herself with her loved ones. Whether it’s watching Riverdale with her roommates or taking post-dinner trips to Wendy’s, she loves to spend time with her friends. She’s also working through her “to be read” list before she graduates, which is pages upon pages long (every pun intended).
