Hobby Time!

Summer is, finally, almost here. With that, there will be nice weather and free time. Well, not a whole lot of free time, there’s still an internship and a job, but it should be more balanced than this semester.

This semester really wiped me out. It felt like I couldn’t go a moment without thinking about a project that was due or an assignment that I had to cram in. While my time will still be occupied, I’m looking forward to my work staying at work. I can finally work on my hobbies again!

There are quite a few things I’ve been thinking about for months, and I’ve been itching to get to work on them.

Halloween Blanket

Look, I started this at the end of August. It was supposed to be a six-week crochet-a-long, and we’re way past that. I think I’m halfway through? Either way, I’m so ready to be done with it. Last year, I did a Christmas blanket, and I absolutely love that, and I know I’ll love this one too. I just need to finish it!

Sophie Hood

This is the project that I deemed the best beginner knitting project for me. I used to knit years ago, and never got past the basic stockinette stitch (I didn’t have Internet most of the time!) I think this will be a great way for me to learn how to increase and decrease, along with a few other things I’m sure I’ll learn along the way.

I have my yarn picked out and wound. I’m holding a fuzzy strand of purple yarn and a normal strand. I do wish I had sprung for natural fibers, but for a practice piece, I went with what was cheapest.

Parasol

So, I actually crocheted this last year, and it looked gorgeous, but when I went to put it on the frame… turns out I missed a section and didn’t notice. For those who don’t know, a parasol is like a sun umbrella. It’s supposed to help keep you in the shade and prevent sunburn, and for a pale lady like me, I’m desperate for one.

I need to unwind about 45 rows and redo most of it, but it’ll be worth it! I have another frame, so this could end up being two projects.

Pajamas

I found a free pajama pattern that I love, and I think pajamas are a great way to get into sewing. After all, if there’s a mistake, who’s going to see? I’ve made a nightgown, but not any type of shorts, so this will be a good chance for me to figure out how to fit those nicely.

My sister thrifted some bed sheets, so she gave me those to use. I picked up a little bit of trim to put around the edges, and I think it’ll be really cute! If there’s enough fabric, I’m going to make a matching bathrobe.

Fox Cardigan

If you saw Project Hail Mary, you know what I’m talking about. I went and saw it with my boyfriend, and he and I both loved it, and this cardigan. There’s a chance I’ll be spinning some wool that’s great for outerwear, so I might get really ambitious and spin the wool for this, but it’s a little unlikely that I’ll do that.

For this, I’ll definitely get all-wool, and I’ll be making this twice: once for my boyfriend and once for me. I’m hoping I’ll get his done in time for his birthday or Christmas, but we’ll have to see how fast I am at knitting.

Hennin

I know it was really trendy last year, but I didn’t get to make one! One of my friends and I have been talking about trying to go to a Ren-Faire, and we’ve been talking about thrifting an old prom dress and making a matching hennin so we can be princesses!

Will it be historically accurate? Not in the least, but I’ll get to feel like a princess with my friend.

This list is a little ambitious. But I like having something to strive for and options to pick from. There’s a little bit of order here. Like, I’m making myself finish the blanket before I do another yarn craft. And I’m sure there’ll be things that I’ll add that are a little more summery. No matter what, I’m striving to have a crafty summer!
