My Last Article Of The Semester

Courtney Buck Student Contributor, Texas State University
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TX State chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

I walked past two people talking today and overheard one of them say, “I can’t even do this” in reference to having to wake up for his 10 a.m. class, and the first thing I thought was, “well, strap in, you got 3 more years.” (I think he was a freshman as he said something about the dorms as well) and giggled to myself.

Some Fun Experiences & Memories

As I near the end of my Junior year, I am going to share some nice little accomplishments that I achieved.

The first one, I turned 21. Now, turning 21 is cool and all, but it still feels the same as being 20, except for the fact that I am officially legal enough to buy a drink. Maybe it wasn’t so exciting because I had a final on that day, originally at 8 p.m or something like that, but with my birthday luck, he offered earlier slots, so I got done with it by like 6 p.m. Perfect time to go to Chili’s with my best friend to celebrate, legally, of course.

That final happened to be for my media design class, which, dare I say, is my favorite class I’ve ever taken in college. We used the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator) to make creative designs and flyers. It was challenging and time-consuming, but so rewarding in the end. I also loved the teacher; he was tech-savvy and hands-on, and I even learned how to navigate and use my files app better, because if I didn’t, I would’ve been lost!

I decided that the career direction I don’t want to pursue is news reporting. Now, no shade to anyone who wants to be a news reporter, because I did too, but writing for the news is not easy. It’s fast-paced, you have to stay up to date with news, conduct a lot of interviews, and there is a certain way to write a news story that I just do not enjoy doing. I applaud all journalists! So, I joined a club and left it in the same semester because I couldn’t write news anymore, and I am glad I made that decision. I tried it, so at least I got to experience it and know it wasn’t the right fit for me. I would be a news anchor, maybe, but I don’t even know about that.

My roommate has a cat named Pumpkin, and she’s so silly, cute, curious, and rambunctious. Sometimes she likes to take my cute pink Fuggler out of its place and hide it. But she’s moving out next year, so Pumpkin and I will no longer be roommates. She has made me want to adopt my own cat. There are some downsides, though. I am mildly allergic to cats, and I am scared to be a mother.

I’m More Than Halfway There

So around this time next year, I will be graduating (hopefully) and back to what I was saying in the beginning about the freshman talking about having a hard time going to class, well, so do I, but that’s just a part of the lifestyle, child. And I can’t believe that these three years have gone by already. I remember transitioning from middle school to high school and thinking, “Oh, those three years went by so fast,” and then five minutes later, I was a senior in high school saying the same thing about how fast those four years flew by. And now, here I am as a junior already saying this, but luckily, it’s not over yet because in about a year from now, I will officially be saying “Wow! Those four years flew by!”

So, is this cycle going to keep happening, or is it over after you graduate? Also, I have a theory about how I think as you get older, time flies by way quicker.

Until Next Time…

Anyway, those are just a few highlights and achievements of my Junior year. I would probably say that so far this year ranks number one out of the three years of my college career. Getting a little bit older and wiser has its perks. Hopefully, I will be back to continue writing for Her Campus for the third year during my senior year of college.
