My Senior Year Bucket List

Taylor Carrasco Student Contributor, Texas State University
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TX State chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

As the seasons change, I’m reminded of the short time I have left on my beautiful campus and in the lovely San Marcos. It’s bittersweet to leave a place that positively shaped me, but I know I’m opening a new chapter of my life that will do the same. I only have one, or maybe two semesters left, yet there’s still so much I want to do.

Float The River

Although I’ve been to Sewell plenty of times to make my skin look less Dracula-like, I’ve only been in the river a couple of times, but I’ve never relaxed in a tube with my friends or my family. I feel like I won’t be truly relaxed until I do so. I need to lean back and feel the sunrays on my skin this summer.

Birthday Squaring

Being on The Square is so fun until you become self-aware about the X’s on the back of your hands every time you go out. I haven’t become a true Texas State student yet. I need to be 21 with my bestie so we can bar crawl as bananas, or maybe hot dogs. October is looking so bright for me!

Try Places I Haven’t Been To Yet

Forgive me, locals and fellow bobcats, for not trying Alvin Ord’s, Ivar’s, Blue Dahlia, and Pie Society. There’s a lot more that I know would put someone into a coma if I mentioned I haven’t been there yet. I love trying new things, but I’m just a girl who loves Chili’s and Raising Cane’s a little too much. I already started trying new coffee shops instead of sticking to my usual Starbucks, so don’t worry.

Hiking

I live near the Lower Purgatory Trail, and I pass by it almost every single day, but I haven’t taken a walk down the beautiful trail. I love nature so much, and I feel like such a loser for not hiking! I want to go out and appreciate it this summer.

Travel & Visit My Friends

My friends are nearing graduation at their colleges as well, and I’d really love to spend some time with them and their college selves before they do big things in life. We don’t see each other very often, so I really want to spend a weekend in their college town to see their little lives in person. I want to be an Aggie for a day with my bestie in College Station, and experience the culture of the 12th Man on gameday. I want to visit another friend at her campus that prioritizes Christianity, so I can feel closer to God. And I’d love to be a Ram at Angelo State with my friend, where I can have a movie marathon while eating Taco Bell. I miss my friends, and I think spending some quality time with them before I graduate would ease my mind.

Attend a Concert

Being so close to Austin and San Antonio is a major plus of attending Texas State. Concerts were always a 4-6 hour drive from my hometown, so I never had many chances to just go. I am so grateful to my friend for giving me the opportunity to see Taylor Swift, even if it was a flight away. Now that I’m in San Marcos, I can just drive the day of the concert, which is so amazing. Last March, I saw J-Hope in San Antonio. Life-changing! There are so many upcoming concerts I want to see this year.

Study Abroad

This will be easy to check off the list, because I will be in Japan this June! Traveling to Japan has always been a dream of mine, and I get to incorporate my love for journalism with it this summer. I am so grateful for this opportunity, and I cannot wait to write about my experience.

Plan For My Future

Currently at the bottom of my list since it’s so scary. As a Libra, I’m too indecisive to figure out what I want to do and when I want to do it. I have too many plans, but actually putting them into effect is the issue. I want to attend graduate school at SMU, jump right into sports broadcasting, get an apartment with my cousin, and travel the world. I want so much for my future self that I must start looking ahead as I near the end. I’m nervous, and I’m so very excited for what the future holds. I hope my senior year is filled with blessings and lots of checked-off bucket list items.
