Hi everyone, it’s good to be writing to you all again! Spring is in full swing and Met Gala season is upon us. This year the event will take place on May 4th, as it occurs every first Monday of May. The theme for this year is “Fashion is Art,” which I think will bring about some very creative designs. Now I usually watch E News’ coverage, but I unfortunately do not have cable anymore. However, best believe I will find a way to watch it live!
I started watching the Met Gala way back when Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik were just starting out (which I know, seems like ages ago). There have been so many different themes and creations each year since. I really love watching the Met Gala and seeing everyone wear these designers’ creations that they’ve expressed themselves through. I get to see how each one interprets the theme and appreciate (or disagree with) it. Being able to do this makes me feel like a little fashion critic. With that being said, I thought I would list the top five people I am eager to see this year (hoping they all show up):
1. Zendaya
At this point, there is no Met Gala without her. She is who I look forward to seeing the most each year, and it kind of sucks when she takes a year off. While I know she is busy this year with all of her different projects releasing, it would be a treat to see her there. I honestly don’t think there is any look Zendaya can’t pull off. Even the one look that wasn’t my favorite, she still looked like a queen in it. At this point, she could wear a brown paper bag and make it look fashionable. However, I respect the fact that her and Lawrence always push the bounds and try new things yet make sure that it works for her.
2. Rihanna
Rihanna is a close second to Zendaya in people I will be looking out for. It’s almost like Rihanna is the big sister and Zendaya is the little sister in this scenario. Rihanna walked so Zendaya could run, and I appreciate that. She is another person I feel has not disappointed me on the carpet and she always understands the assignment. I feel like this will be the first Met Gala in a long time that she won’t be pregnant while attending, so I hope to see her attend. I feel like this is another theme for her to shine in because she’s always willing to take risks.
3. Teyana Taylor
Teyana’s look last year was top-tier! I loved how on theme it was, yet it still was so true to her style. She was made for last year’s theme. This is a big reason that I want to see what she will wear this year. I don’t think I’ll be disappointed though, because Teyana’s fashion never disappoints.
4. The Biebers
Coming off of the heels of Coachella, I would be really happy to see the couple step out and walk the carpet. It honestly would keep the momentum going. I will also say I loved their look from the 2021 Met Gala. Though it may have been simple and a bit safe, it was chic and timeless.
5. The Kardashians
I honestly love seeing if the whole family will fit the theme. It really can be hit or miss at times, but I can’t lie, I have loved some of their looks in the past. At this point, they are a staple to the Met Gala, so I know I am bound to see at least one of them there. I feel like I want to see Kylie the most because I would like to see her outfit be more abstract and out of the box compared to the past. I feel as though sometimes her looks, though always on point and beautiful, can be lackluster and not take the theme to the next level. I would also like to see Kim because she is always willing to go all the way for the sake of the look. If you all remember the Marilyn Monroe dress controversy, you know what I mean.
Sadly, by the time the Met Gala airs, I’ll be taking a break from writing for the summer. However, I hope you all will tune in and see one of fashion’s biggest events. You could even have a fun little watch party with friends. To look back at past Met Gala looks from each year’s themes, take a look at this Vogue article. Until next time guys!
