It Should Have Been Me At Blood Orange’s Coachella Performance

With both Coachella weekends finally coming to a close, videos and conversations of some of the most popular Coachella performances are circulating online. YouTube vlogs of celebrities getting ready for Coachella, fit check posts, and highlight reels have taken over social media feeds. I don’t know about all of you, but I’ve had the craziest FOMO. This feeling hits the hardest when I see videos of Blood Orange’s Coachella performance from the first weekend.

Why Blood Orange’s Coachella Performance Stood out

Watching clips of Blood Orange’s Coachella performance honestly delivers a whole different vibe than seeing clips of other artists’ performances. There’s a different kind of energy, calmer and more intentional, and I genuinely wish I was there in person to experience it. His music and performances (from what I’ve seen online) feel almost psychedelic, calming, and just give a very chill summer energy. His music reminds me so much of summer 2024, which was honestly one of the best summers of my life, and I think that’s part of the reason why his music hits so hard. Something about Blood Orange’s music just makes me feel nostalgic and like I’m longing for something more, and watching his Coachella set only makes that feeling stronger.

Part of why this hits so hard is because Blood Orange’s music has always been more about feeling than anything else. Songs like “Charcoal Baby” and “You’re Not Good Enough” don’t just sound good; they create a whole atmosphere. This is the kind of music you’d listen to during late summer nights, long drives, or nostalgic moments you know you’ll want to look back on. Out of all of the Coachella performances circulating online, that’s what sets him apart.

My BLood Orange Song Reccomendations

In lieu of his amazing Coachella performance, I’d like to offer some of my absolute favorite songs (and albums!) within his discography.

Starting off strong, my top recommendation would have to be “Uncle ACE,” not only because it’s an amazing song, but it really brings me back to summer 2024: “Challengers” summer, if you know you know. It really makes me want to run over to the tennis courts this summer and just start swinging that racquet!

Next up would have to be “Wish,” one of four songs on his 2022 EP. It’s such a nostalgic-sounding song, and I love how calming, moody, and lowkey it feels. It’s a song I could listen to over and over again without getting sick of it.

I go through phases where I’ll hyper-fixate and over-listen to one specific Blood Orange song, and my playlists are definitely proof of that; I swear there’s not a single one without a Blood Orange song on it! But my current obsession is “Best To You” featuring Empress Of. So obsessed, in fact, that it found its way onto my most recent Instagram post. Don’t be shocked if it shows up on the @hercampusuconn Instagram at some point, too! (Joking… kinda.) It’s just such a fun, funky-sounding song, and I absolutely love it.

Closing Thoughts

At the end of the day, of everything I’ve seen from Coachella this year, Blood Orange’s set is the one I keep coming back to and rewatching on social media. It just feels different in a way that’s hard to explain unless you just get it. It’s not loud or over-the-top, but still sticks with you more. So if you’re deep in Coachella FOMO or just need something new to listen to, take this as your sign to jump down the Blood Orange rabbit hole as I did some time ago! You will not regret it.
