Reality TV for When You Need a Break From Real Life

If you are anything like me, you are a fiend for a good reality TV show. Today, it really seems like they are making shows out of just about anything. The concepts are getting wilder as producers keep trying to reinvent the wheel, and I, personally, am all here for it. There are a lot of great options out right now, so here is a breakdown of a few to help you decide where to start the next time you need to watch someone else’s life to escape from your own.

Temptation Island

This show is about couples that are facing tough times in their relationships. They come on Temptation Island to live separately with other singles of the opposite gender in a house with them. The goal is to test the connection with your partner, and at the end to see if you want to leave the island with who you originally came with, someone new, or by yourself. This show is packed full of drama and will have you binging all episodes in one sitting.

Love Overboard

This is a new show that recently came out on Hulu. It is hosted by Gabby Windey from the Bachelor and Alex Cooper is the executive producer. The premise is a group of singles that come on a yacht to find love. Except it’s not that simple. Only four couples at a time get to live lavish on the top deck, and the rest live on the downside where they must complete daily chores. Love Overboard has all the best elements of reality TV from humor to drama and honestly felt like it belonged in the early 2000s.

Age of Attraction

Age of Attraction is one of those shows that has you asking who came up with this concept. This show attempts to rewrite the rules of dating by having the contestants not know how old everyone is, and you are not allowed to ask. Once they are coupled up and feel ready, the couples go to the Promise Room to reveal their age and test their connection. It is great entertainment and I could not look away.

Love is Blind

You have probably heard of this one. Love is Blind is now on season number 10, and every season it has me coming back for more. Singles come together to find their soulmate by dating and getting engaged without ever seeing one another. They connect and talk in pods until they propose and then are tested in the real world, and if everything works out, they get married at the end. While the concept remains the same for every season, new drama emerges every time. I am always seeing viral clips of this show on TikTok whenever a new season drops. If you have not seen this one yet, it is easy to get into.

Honorable Mentions

These are two oldies but goodies that I always seem to come back to. Jersey Shore is my favorite reality TV show of all time. They just cannot replicate this one, and the drama still gets me every time I rewatch the show. Another one is The Simple Life with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. Rich people having to give up their life of luxury and work “normal” jobs, sign me up.

Reality TV is my favorite genre of shows to watch. I love getting to see real people in situations I would never find myself in, and they are a great way to de-stress for when I need something lighthearted and fun.
