Freshman year can be tough. You’re leaving your home, your friends and your family all to face an entirely new place. However, you do have control over one thing: what you can bring with you.
- Woozoo Fan
-
You are going to hear everyone around you mention this, and you’re gonna think it can’t actually be that good. Well, you’re wrong.
I religiously use my Woozoo every single day. It especially comes in clutch if you are living in an older building, or if you go to school in the South. I go to school in Pennsylvania, and I seriously didn’t think I would need it, but I have used it more than I can count.
- Ottoman
-
An ottoman is essential for a few reasons. First, you are going to need something to help you get on your ridiculously high bed. Next, it gives you an extra chair for any visitors. Finally, it gives you a place to put anything that you might not want your RA to see during room checks.
- Going Out Sneakers
-
Remember those old Air Force 1s from high school, or your religiously worn Converse? You might think of leaving them at home, but you should probably think again.
You are going to go out to places where the floors have never been mopped, and drinks are continuously spilled upon. Do not waste your cute shoes on the weekends– bring your old, dirty shoes.
- Black Mini Skirt
-
When you think of going out outfits, you usually think of jeans. While you’re not wrong, and jeans are very common, I believe that a black mini skirt is just as useful, especially in the fall and spring when the weather is still nice.
They really go with everything and are such a staple in your closet.
- Reliable Bluetooth Headphones
-
Headphones may be my most-used item at school. I use them walking to class, studying in the library and most importantly in my room. Unfortunately, freshman year usually entails sharing your space with someone else.
With this, you’ll find you can’t just blast your phone like you can at home. It can be annoying at times, but with comfortable and reliable headphones, you will manage.
- Comfy Blanket
-
You might think that a comforter is good enough, but you will want a blanket. This is helpful for when it’s winter, when you’re sick or even just when you want to be extra warm while you sleep. A soft blanket is such a comfort and can be so helpful, and something that you forget to bring.
- Slippers
-
Coming to school, I completely forgot about the shoes that I could just throw on when I wanted to go to the bathroom or fill up my water bottle. I quickly asked my mom to bring my slippers down to school, and I have been wearing them religiously ever since. I promise you will not regret getting a pair.
- Eye Mask
-
It’s inevitable. You have a 10 a.m. and your roommate has an 8 a.m. Your roommate wants to go out, and you don’t. You may even just want to take a nap during the day.
An eye mask is something that I seriously underestimated. I never used one at home, yet I soon realized that it is one of the most-used items in my dorm.
Thank you so much for reading this article. I hope that this gave you inspiration as to what you should consider getting for your freshman year in college. Best of luck!
