After four years of not touring, Justin Bieber headlined Coachella on Saturday, April 11th. Coachella is a popular music festival that happens every year in California. For some artists, this is one of the biggest stages. For Bieber, this was an opportunity to show that he still loves his fans and the music. While there were mixed reviews on the performance, he did it in a way that worked for him. Let’s talk about it!
Setlist
If you’ve been a “Belieber” for the last decade, you should be satisfied with Justin Bieber’s setlist. In his 90-minute performance, he played 30 songs. He started off with newer stuff from his “SWAG” album. Then, he switched to the music we all know and love. Songs like “Baby”, “That Should Be Me”, and “Beauty and a Beat” will always hold a special place in our hearts. He also played some hits from his “Journals” album. Overall, the music is the most important aspect, and Bieber has undeniable hit records. It’s so nice to see him at the point in his career where the music speaks for itself.
Stage Presence
When it comes to the Coachella performance itself, some people think it was a chill vibe, and others found it to be lazy. Bieber sat on a stool in front of a laptop and played old YouTube videos of himself. He was also on a livestream during the performance. This allowed him to engage with the chat and the crowd simultaneously. The livestream would request a song, and he’d have the music video in the background and jam out. While this is quite simple, some of his fans thought this was lazy. They paid hundreds of dollars to watch him sing his discography. All of the lip singing ( or sometimes not singing at all) had concertgoers in an uproar. If you’re a Justin Bieber fan, you’d know that he was discovered on YouTube. The videos in the background were homage to his career and how far he’s come.
Regardless of how you feel about the performance, it was great to see Justin Bieber back on a big stage. It was a creative way to play on nostalgia and entertain the fans who watched him grow up. The millennial pop star did a great job and proves yet again that he’ll always be relevant. What are your thoughts? Did Justin Bieber have a Coachella comeback?
