The Rise of Young Hollywood’s It Girl: Mckenna Grace

The future of Hollywood is, without a doubt, a topic many of us are interested in. Who will be the next Angelina Jolie, Tom Cruise, or one of the other iconic Hollywood stars we grew up watching? I can say with full confidence that the industry is in good hands with Mckenna Grace holding it all on her back.

Starting her acting career at age five, Mckenna Grace has grown up on our screens. We know her as the younger version of some blonde character from Young Tonya in I, Tonya to Young Carol in Captain Marvel. This is how she began her way into our hearts.

Grace currently has 77 IMDb credits, with six upcoming projects, for a total of 83 at the age of 19. She has 13 nominations with three awards, including her performance as Esther Keyes in The Handmaid’s Tale. She was only 14 when she portrayed a former wife and handmaid in such a dark and meaningful show, and the performance she gave blew us all away.

At only 19, Grace has been in over a dozen major franchises across film and television. These include The Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Entertainment, The Hunger GamesScreamGhostbustersScooby-Doo, and PAW Patrol

Personally, my favorite performance of hers was in the 2017 movie Gifted. She plays Mary, a young child prodigy raised by her single uncle, Frank, played by Chris Evans. Grace was only nine years old when filming the movie back in 2015, and oh, did that little girl have rent to pay. This movie is viewed as her breakout role and proved that she has a lot to bring to the industry.

One of her most anticipated roles is her upcoming portrayal of Maysilee Donner in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The internet showed some disapproval of her casting, as they wanted to see a fresh face. Although I agree it would be nice to see someone new, there is no doubt that Grace will prove to us that she was the right casting.

If you thought she was just a one-trick pony, this girl is also a singer-songwriter. She has over 39 songs and has either written or co-written over 10 of them. Her music ventures into pop rock and alternative pop, with most of her songs having music videos available to watch on YouTube.

What blows my mind even more is that her music isn’t just some side project. It actually feels like she means it. She’s not just dropping songs for money; she’s out here building a whole new lane for herself. Listen to “Haunted House” or “do all my friends hate me?” and you’ll hear the same raw emotion she brings to her acting. Honestly, how many 19-year-olds can pull off both music and movies with that much honesty?

But here’s what really makes Grace stand out: she knows how to level up. Most child actors get stuck playing the same roles over and over, but not her. She’s already breaking out of that box. Every new role she takes on is bolder and more interesting than the last. She’s not just the go-to for playing someone’s younger self anymore; she’s setting the bar.

Hollywood is always on the hunt for its next big thing, but with Mckenna Grace, it’s not even a question. She’s already got the experience, the range, and the hustle of someone twice her age. And she still has that spark that keeps her pushing for more.

So yeah, maybe some people are worried about where Hollywood is headed, but with someone like her at the front, I’m not losing any sleep. If this is what she’s done by 19, the only thing left to ask is how much further she’ll go.
