As spring rolls around, so does a natural return to bright colors, flowy silhouettes, and fun textures. It’s the ideal time for statement fashion, as the weather becomes more forgiving of experimentation, and the blooming flowers on College Hill welcome growth and change.
Now of all the ways to add personality to an outfit this spring, jewelry is easily a favorite. There’s just something irresistible about a warm gold or bright silver when the sun finally starts to shine consistently, and the possibilities are endless with shape, size, and subject.
Pinterest is my best friend when it comes to finding jewelry inspiration. The algorithm has been on a roll of introducing me to some of the most unique, beautiful jewelry pieces I’ve seen, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that it’s been love at first sight with a few. While I admittedly feel safest in my everyday, minimalist pieces, I’ve certainly been trying to branch out. So without further ado, here are three statement jewelry brands I’ve recently come across, and would be honored to put on your radar for spring.
Juliana Bezerra
Originally from Brazil, jewelry designer Juliana Bezerra began her small brand in Portugal around 2012, and has been building a loyal community since. Her pieces are each beautifully handcrafted and are inspired by a blend of her Brazilian roots and the Portuguese scenes she’s begun to call home.
Her work characteristically features very organic and fluid shapes, and takes inspiration from natural elements around the world, with special attention bestowed upon the oceans and forests. She offers large and small pieces alike, each with a unique way of making a statement, whether it be through size, texture, gems, or unexpected inspirations.
I was personally drawn to her pieces for their playful textures, and she certainly has a talent for creating pieces with interesting combinations of eye-catching and delicate elements. It is evident through her collections that she is an avid storyteller, and it’s an experience in itself to witness the personality of each piece. My favorite work of hers is likely the Frenesim Anel and Calypso Anel Dedo Mindinho, and I’m looking forward to visiting her store in Lisbon someday.
Chan Luu
A Vietnamese-born designer, Chan Luu began her brand in 1996, finally exploring her passion for artisan jewelry-making after a career in retail. Her brand has since grown to include ready-to-wear fashion as well as a men’s line, and family members have joined on to help nurture the business. The brand was really put on the map when Jennifer Aniston was photographed wearing one of her pieces, and the brand’s presence has only grown from there.
With a deep-rooted commitment to fair labor practices, Chan Luu believes that hand-crafted items carry a special sentimentality for their wearers, and this contributes much to the brand’s mission and identity. Though there is a flagship store in LA, Chan Luu is largely known for their online store, and is notably carried by a few larger companies, such as Anthropologie.
Chan Luu originally caught my eye through her use of abalone shell in absolutely stunning statement earrings. Much like Juliana Bezerra, Chan Luu’s pieces are inspired by multicultural influences and natural elements, though Chan Luu’s unique angle is her memorable use of pearls and gemstones. You’ll notice a lot of large silhouettes, and many pieces featuring beautiful combinations of different pendants and charms. My personal favorite items are her Mizumi Earrings Abalone for a fun occasion, or Kyanite and Pearl Drop Earrings for everyday wear.
LucienLucienLucien
Finally, we have LucienLucienLucien, a very small London-based brand. Though there is not published information on the background of this artist and brand, it is well-worth your time and attention for the beautiful, detail-oriented craftsmanship.
Owner and designer Lucien specializes in molten-silver rings with inset gemstones, featuring organic textures and shapes that bring individuality to each and every piece. This designer intentionally keeps his focus narrow with this particular style, allowing him to hone craft undeniably well.
Offering both ready-to-wear pieces and a bespoke custom line, I’ve been planning on eventually adding a ring of his to my collection. There is something so sentimental about purchasing from such a personal brand, and Lucien is truly a hidden gem (no pun intended). My current top contenders are the No.1 Best Seller at Lucien’s, and Lucien’s Classic for their light, springy palettes, though you really can’t go wrong.
I never cease to be amazed by the talent of these jewelry designers, and the hope is that neither will you. With that, enjoy exploring the beautiful pieces they’ve each crafted!
