The Last Month and a Half of Senior Year: Chaos, Memories, and Everything in Between

Too many photos, but memories you’ll never forget

Spring Concert, formals, senior week, graduation pictures, commencement, all events that seniors will remember forever in the next 6 weeks. Spring weekend, sports games, parents’ brunch, nurse pinning. Important moments in our lives we will cherish. While there is so much to look forward to, no one talks about the stress that comes with the smile, and there’s a need to capture every moment on camera. Let’s talk about it.

We all have phones. Every little second we get, we want to take pictures. I know I like to do that. For example, every stop I made on spring break, I had to take a picture. My friends, myself, the scenery, whatever it is. Why? Well, now I have it forever, and that’s how most of us feel during big moments in our lives, like Graduation. However, does gluing our eyes to our camera app every second take away from the present moment? I might look back months from now and say to myself: “Wow, I wish I had put my phone down for a while when I was away on break”.

Does that mean no photos? Absolutely not! I love taking photos, and you do too. However, there is a big difference between taking photos for the memory and soaking up all your time using your phone. Let’s use the Boston boat cruise during senior week as an example. Dress up, put your gold necklace on, and take a few pictures with your friends on the boat. After that, turn that phone off! Look out to the city, admire the water, and laugh with your friends; that is what senior week is all about.

The reality is, as seniors, you will never get this experience back. After graduation, it is time for the real world. No more nonsense. What if you spent the remainder of your senior year all over your phone? No! You’re meant to enjoy the end of your time at college and celebrate with the people who made it. One day, you will want to look back and remember the memories you made at your last spring concert, not watching TikTok during the whole show.

This is my message to all graduating seniors: slow down, take a deep breath, and cherish these memories being gifted. You have come a long way in the past four years, and you deserve to celebrate IN. THE. MOMENT!
