If you’re someone who enjoys planning, who likes staying on top of things, and who doesn’t mind being in contact with a range of people from brands, societies, businesses, or venues, then this role is definitely for you.
If you’re organised, if you’re creative and if you like seeing ideas come into fruition, this role was quite literally built for you.
At its core, being an Events Manager is about planning and running events. You’ll be booking rooms, filling out event forms, and making sure everything is approved and ready to go. But beyond that, you’re also the one coming up with the ideas, shaping them, and figuring out how to bring them to life.
A large part of the role is communication. You’re regularly emailing, messaging, and checking in with people, whether that’s other societies, collaborators, or your own committee. It might sound like a lot, but it quickly becomes second nature, and it’s what keeps everything running as it should.
If you thrive in creative spaces, you’ll really enjoy this role. You’re constantly thinking of new ideas, building on them, and then watching them take shape in real time. There’s something so satisfying about seeing something that once existed only as a thought become something tangible.
You also get a real insight into what goes on behind the scenes. People see the outcome, the event, the photos, the aftermath, but they rarely think about everything that happens beforehand. This role gives you a full view behind that curtain, and an understanding of just how much goes into making everything come together.
And the best part is, you’re never doing it alone.
The role is incredibly collaborative. Your co-events manager, your chairs, your PRO, your BDO, everyone plays a part. As long as you’re communicating and keeping each other in the loop, everything feels far more manageable. When everyone is doing their part, there’s a kind of rhythm to it all.
My favourite part, honestly, is watching an idea turn into something people can experience, enjoy, and be part of. Seeing the aftermath, the product of all that planning and effort coming together, and something people actually enjoy.
Of course, it does require time and commitment, but it never feels overwhelming in a way that you can’t handle. There’s always support, always someone to turn to, and always a shared understanding of what needs to be done.
Overall, it’s such a rewarding role. You gain experience, you learn how things truly operate behind the scenes, and you get to be part of creating something that people genuinely enjoy.
So if you’re organised, creative, and like the idea of turning concepts into something real, this is absolutely a role worth going for.
