The Devil Wears Prada 2: Why Fans Are So Excited

The Devil Wears Prada was one of the most iconic movies when it was first released in the 2000’s. Not only did it have an iconic cast, but it was also iconic for being a movie centred around fashion.

All things Vogue, couture, and glamour!

Although the movie came out in 2006, the fandom has grown exponentially over the past 20 years. Generations of young women and men continue to call this movie one of the best to date.

Personally, it’s one of my favourites, and I was born the year it was released!

For some background, the first movie follows a young journalist named Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway), who gets a job at the prestigious Runway magazine (basically Vogue) as an assistant to the editor, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).  Although she knows nothing about fashion, she lands the job—not because of her style or looks — but because of her dedication. She then has to balance impressing Miranda with maintaining her identity as the job slowly takes over her life.

Disney announced we would be getting a sequel to the iconic first movie in July of 2024, and finally, it is making its way to theatres on May 1, 2026. The sequel reprises the roles of Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway), Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), and Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt).

The trailer hints that the movie is about Andrea returning to Runway and working with Miranda Priestly. The premise is to save Runway magazine from the decline of interest in print journalism, while also hinting at a rivalry between Miranda and Emily, who is now a big-time executive for a luxury group.

I feel like the film will dive into what each character is doing in the present day, especially tackling why Andrea came back to Runway. I’m really interested to see how they will reintroduce each character and what they have been doing since the first movie.

Also, looking at today and journalism, it will be interesting to see what challenges Runway and Miranda face. Maybe she called Andrea in to help her because print journalism is drowning in today’s social media age.

While the movie was filming on public streets in New York City, fans began to piece together possible outcomes. One big set photo that took the internet by storm was of Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci, wearing all black, walking together.

Fans were guessing it might be Miranda’s funeral, but no one hoped it was! Other than that one scene, fans haven’t had much else to speculate about, so we shall see!

One iconic aspect of the first film was how the characters devoured every on-screen look. From Miranda’s iconic shades to Andrea’s total glow-up, the looks from the first movie are still talked about today.

For this sequel, they didn’t hold back. From the looks of the trailer, everyone is as stylish as they were in the first movie.

Now, what makes this sequel worth watching? The sequel will give us a look at the struggles of present-day journalists and editors who cannot keep up with the rising popularity of social media. Now, people resort to TikTok, Instagram, and online publications for information.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the movie for sure. This is also a sequel coming out over 20 years after the original, so it’s both exciting and nostalgic for previous generations who loved the first movie.

Along with the sequel coming to theatres on May 1st, there will be a fun popcorn bucket that is shaped like a purse, along with other accessories you can purchase before viewing the movie.

I know what I’ll be doing on May 1st because who wouldn’t want to go see The Devil Wears Prada 2 in theatres?
