As the school year drags on, we are all itching to unleash some creativity. Crafts are one of the best ways to disconnect from the internet and catch up with your besties. But let’s be real, they are often pricey and take up way too much space for our small city bedrooms. So, here are my five tested and approved craft nights you can actually pull off in your dorm or apartment.

Make Phone Charms

Who doesn’t want to beautify something they carry with them everywhere? Phone charm-making is one of the easiest crafts you can do in a small dorm space. All you need is a bead, charm, and string kit, which can be easily found on Amazon for under $20.

From there, you can get creative: use letter beads to spell out your name, or use colorful beads to match your background screen. It’s a quick craft that adds a fun, personalized touch to your outfit — because yes, a phone is an accessory.

Paint A Glass

Painting glasses is the perfect craft night activity because it’s simple and lets everyone leave with something cute they’ll actually use. Grab a wine glass, mug, or clear cup from the Dollar Tree, along with a few acrylic paints, and let everyone get creative. Whether you paint flowers, cherries, bows, or a design you found on Pinterest, it’s the perfect low-stress activity where everyone can chat and unwind while making something adorable for their dorm.

Vision Boards

Although Pinterest is a great way to map out your goals, physically putting together your aspirations for the future is much better. Using magazines, printed photos, stickers, and colorful markers, everyone can create a vision board that reflects what they hope for in the upcoming semester. From dream travel spots to career goals, or just the aesthetic you want for 2026, it’s a fun way to get creative and motivated. The best part is that it doubles as room decor!

“Open When” Letters

This is a sappy craft night idea I wish I had done earlier, now that I’m a senior graduating this month. “Open when” letters are a meaningful craft that lets you create something thoughtful for your future self while honoring your goals and accomplishments.

Write letters labeled for specific moments like “open when you’re graduating,” “open when you finish your first year of college,” or “open when it’s finals week.” You can decorate the envelopes with stickers and doodles, and even add photos or little notes inside. It’s a sweet and personal activity that reminds you of how far you’ve come.

Magnets

On a less sentimental note, magnet making is a quick craft that once again doubles as cute dorm décor. Using mini canvases or air-dry clay, you can create any design you can dream of, and simply glue a magnet on the back. Whether it’s flowers, mini foods, or your favorite pictures, you can cover your mini fridge or whiteboard in these aesthetic personalized magnets while holding any other photos or notes.

Craft nights are a great way to slow down and spend time with the people around you. Whether you’re painting glasses or writing “open when” letters to your future self, these small moments can turn into great memories. So grab some friends, clear off a dorm room desk, and get creative!

You might just end up with a cute piece of décor.
