“We’re not savage. We’re not animals. We’re not aliens. We’re humans, and we’re Americans.” Personally, Bad Bunny’s Best Album acceptance speech perfectly encapsulated the 2026 Grammy Awards.
On Sunday, Feb. 1, the world’s hottest music artists walked the red carpet and danced their hearts out to performances from Sabrina Carpenter to Justin Bieber. Some of the winners were “Luther” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA who won Record of the Year, and Olivia Dean who won Best New Artist. Controversially, Billie Eilish’s “Wildflower” secured Song of the Year, despite being released in 2024.
The Grammys also aren’t complete without outfits like Zara Larsson’s sunny yellow two-piece or Lady Gaga’s eerie black basket hat. But it’s Gaga — she can wear whatever she wants, meat dress and all.
Despite airing on CBS, the ceremony felt deeply political, see Bad Bunny’s speech above. Many artists wore “ICE Out” pins and cheered after host Trevor Noah’s dig at Nicki Minaj’s friendship with Donald J. Trump. Even though escaping America’s current state might feel tempting, it was powerful to see celebrities use their platforms to raise awareness because, “If we do not laugh, we will cry” (Jane Yolen).
Overall, the awards show was a decent three-hour experience—but what was even better? The online tweets that were posted on X. So, here are 10 of my favorites:
- “Nicki Minaj has arrived on the Grammys red carpet” -Eren (@erenfromtargets) February 1, 2026
At the 2020 Grammys, Joy Villa, a conservative YouTuber, walked the red carpet in a red latex dress with “Trump 2020” spelled out on the front and “Impeached & Re-Elected” on the back. X users began comparing Nicki Minaj to Villa after the rapper called herself “Trump’s number one fan” and held the president’s hand in Washington, D.C. and held the president’s hand in Washington, D.C.
- “I thought jelly roll and teddy swims were the same person” -alex (@userctrI) February 1, 2026
To be honest, if you put me in a room with Jelly Roll and Teddy Swims, I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference either. For context, both are singer-songwriters with several tattoos and a beard.
- “Justin Bieber represents my anti-social ass anytime someone brings the attention towards me” -Culture (@notwendalupe) February 1, 2026
I love that even after nearly 19 years in the industry, Justin Bieber has remained true to his personality.
- “Was Justin Bieber in his underwear on stage – #GRAMMYs” -Nadiyah (@nadspams1) February 1, 2026
Justin Bieber just wanted to lounge in his boxers and snuggle under a cozy blanket. Hence, the singer’s stripped-down outfit while performing “Yukon” later in the broadcast.
- “Hedi Klum really showed up to the Grammys looking like an uncooked chicken” -Spencer Althouse (@SpencerAlthouse) February 1, 2026
Unfortunately, in my opinion, Klum’s outfits always seem to lack creativity and style, which confuses me. Considering the model is best friends with designer Zac Posen and the infamous queen of Project Runway.
- “Joni Mitchell seeing Addison’s performance tonight:” -LaLa (@NaomiSlots) February 1, 2026
According to much of the internet, Addison Rae, a former TikToker turned pop star, has drawn comparisons to the legendary Joni Mitchell.
- “the double standard is sick. men are allowed to be mediocre while women have to be EVERYTHING.” -(@fiIMf*g) February 1, 2026
Preach — because if Sabrina Carpenter performed at the Grammys in just a bra, she would be banished from the industry.
- “Lol at the entire Grammys audience cheering when Trevor Noah announced that Nicki Minaj was NOT in attendance” -Spencer Althouse (@SpencerAlthouse) February 1, 2026
Clearly, Hollywood is not a fan of Nicki Minaj’s new best friend either.
- “Cher was about to say La La Land” -Sam Greisman (@SAMGREIS) February 1, 2026
During the 2026 broadcast, Cher took the stage to present, despite her appearance not being scheduled. The iconic singer seemed unsure of what to do, initially reading the winner as “Luther Vandross… no, Kendrick Lamar.” The correct pronunciation for Record of the Year was “Luther” by Kendrick Lamar and Vandross.
X user Same Gries compared Cher’s mix-up to the 2017 Academy Awards when presenters Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty mistakenly announced La La Land as Best Picture due to a mismatched envelope. The presenters had been handed Emma Stone’s Best Actress envelope instead.
And yes, I will forever be enraged that La La Land did not win — and now by Cher’s speech as well.
- “the grammys stage:” -Tom Smyth (@Tom_Smyth_) February 1, 2026
Somehow, the Looney Tunes characters are always found at the scene of a crime.
