Welcome back, everyone! Today, I have been pondering and realized how much that I wanted to share my ranking of Sunday Best by Nick Jonas with you all! It has been many years since Nick Jonas has dropped a solo album, which is why I have been very excited about this album. The song style that is present within this album is unlike any other album that I have seen written by a Jonas Brother before. As a huge Nick Jonas fan, I absolutely love this album that he dropped! Here is my personal ranking of all of the songs off of the album, but please do remember that this is just my opinion!
Number 14: You Got Me
I do like the meaning behind this song, but it is not my favorite off of the album. I think that this song has a great sentimental meaning behind it, which is very respectable. The song may be a little slow for me, but I definitely think that the meaning behind this song is deep and sweet for the person that the song was written about.
Number 13: Handprints
This song is a lighthearted and great vibe that Nick Jonas was able to produce. This song seems to be about wanting to slow down time throughout his life because he wants to be able to appreciate each moment in his life. I also do like the beat of this song and how relatable the song is.
Number 12: Sweet To Me
Now, this song seems to dive into Nick Jonas’ personal experiences based off of how the song begins. This song reflects on looking back at particular events that he holds close to his heart from his past. He seems to have enjoyed and believed that those memories were “sweet” and special for him to reflect back on. I think that this song is very personal for him, which I enjoy to be able to see him dive into his own experiences for his music. I also like how the song goes from very slow at the beginning and speeds up a little bit for the chorus.
Number 11: Aphrodite
I love the symbolism and metaphors that he uses as the base for the song. He uses the connection of the Greek goddess and makes a connection to his current lover potentially. I feel like there is a love and desire implanted in this song for the “Aphrodite” in his life. I really enjoy the symbolism that he incorporated into this song.
Number 10: Seeing Ghosts
I love how upbeat that this song is compared to some of the others off of the album. This song does reflect having unresolved emotions from past relationships that he may still carry with him when he had discovered his new relationship. This song is just a great vibe to be able to play in the car, and it honestly brightens my mood each time that I listen to it.
Number 9: I Need You
If you are looking for a more sentimental song on the album, this is the one! This song is centered around his wife and his daughter, which is so sweet! This song does have some gospel-like elements within it, but it shows how much he truly has a love for his wife and daughter. He ends up talking about how he wishes that he was immortal so that he could spend as much time with them as possible. This song can also make you cry if you really connect it to those individuals that you may have in your life!
Number 8: “911”
I believe that this song centers around some of the struggles that he has faced within his life. It seems to reflect upon the times that he was hurt from people and experiences with his life, which can be relatable for many individuals. This song also has very catchy elements within it, and I will play this song anywhere and everywhere!
Number 7: Gut Punch Live
I was beyond excited when this song was added to the deluxe version of the “Sunday Best” album. I actually was joking about him dropping the “live” version when he had first promoted “Gut Punch” while the Jonas Brothers were on their Greetings from Your Hometown tour. This song incorporates some of his background singers, which is an element that I love about it. I also love that this version has Nick Jonas singing the song where you can feel the emotion directly through his voice without having autotune.
Number 6: The Greatest
I was very ecstatic when I had seen that Nick Jonas and the Jonas Brothers collaborated to put forth a song for Nick Jonas’ solo album! Having his brothers also featured in the album was a great move on their end from my opinion. I absolutely love this song due to the meaning and the sentimental elements that are embedded in the song. I also love how the background music isn’t “drowning out” each of the brothers’ voices. This song seems to have a family support element within it, which is very encouraging as well!
Number 5: Hope
This song is one of the most relatable songs off of the album for me. He discusses facing struggles within his life and looking for a way of guidance to figure out what to do next. It talks about how life can be very difficult at times, but he glues to his faith to be able to make it through these changes. This song shows how difficult it can be to stick with your faith and trust the process when many bad events keep coming your way. As funny as it sounds, this song really shows how you need “hope” to make it through even the most difficult days of your life.
Number 4: Princesses
I absolutely am obsessed within this song! Nick Jonas did end up writing this song as a tribute to his daughter. It really captures how he cherishes the innocence of playing princesses with his daughter. It truly reflects his feelings about being a father and how he enjoys these moments with his daughter. It also shows that although sometimes he can be so caught up in his career that it feels like she is growing up way too fast. This song is absolutely precious!
Number 3: While You’re Gone
This song was presented specifically only on the deluxe version of the album, but I am so grateful that he decided to drop this song! I love the new vibes that this song adds to this album. There are romantic elements within the song that shows his support for his loved ones while they are facing difficult times. It shows how he will be there waiting through difficult times no matter what happens to the loved ones in his life.
Number 2: London Foolishly
I almost am speechless from what this song presents to the album! It reflects upon a time where he was in London and reflecting upon himself during this trip. It truly makes me feel like I am walking through the streets of London and am feeling what he was facing during this trip that he had! I love the eerie, yet personal feeling that the song provides!
Number 1: Gut Punch
I instantly loved “Gut Punch” from the moment that Nick Jonas had first presented it to the public at one of the Greetings from Your Hometown shows. He shares how self-acceptance can be difficult and how the voice in our head really impacts how we are. It emphasizes the importance of giving “grace” to ourself and being nice to ourselves when we feel pressure in our lives. It also discusses how becoming a “people pleaser” can be a tendency that we may fall to. I feel like this is the most relatable song from the album, and there is such a deep element to it. This song is a 10/10 for me, no matter how many times this song blasts in my car!
Now, if you aren’t a typical pop music listener, I still encourage you to listen to some of the songs if you are looking to explore your horizons! This album is honestly one of my favorite albums that Nick Jonas has produced. As always, thank you so much for reading this article.
