While I can be a picky eater, I’m a major foodie. I love going out to restaurants, whether I’ve never been to a restaurant or tried one out many times before. It’s already two months into the year, and I tried at least three new restaurants so far! Here is a list of some of the restaurants that I’ve been to so far this year, and what I ordered from each one.

Sloane’s

My order: egg plate (scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast with homemade jam, grilled avocado), banana bread (to-go)

Sloane’s is an American restaurant in Allston. I went for brunch, but they serve lunch and dinner as well. It was a smaller-sized restaurant, but it felt homey. The staff was very nice and accommodating, and the food was absolutely delicious. I recommend going for brunch first!

Mimi’s Chūka Diner

My order: Chicken karaage (fried chicken, kewpie mayo, and cabbage) with rice

This was on my list of restaurants I needed to try for some months, and I’m so happy I finally got to try it in January! Located in Somerville, Mimi’s Chūka Diner is a small Asian fusion eatery made to resemble a diner. It’s definitely underestimated for its size because the food is incredible. The portions are big, though, so expect to get two meals for the price of one!

Bistro 5

My order: Tagliatelle bolognese

For Valentine’s Day, I went to the Italian restaurant Bistro 5 in Medford. There was a special three-course menu along with the regular menu, but I skipped the courses and went straight for the bolognese. The portion size was perfect, and the sauce tasted very unique compared to other bolognese sauces. The desserts also looked picturesque!

Donut Villa Diner

My order (this particular time): chicken strips with mac n cheese

Donut Villa is one of my favorite restaurants, and I go frequently! As someone who’s lactose intolerant, it has so many options for me. This restaurant has three locations: Cambridge, Arlington, and Malden, but I went to the Arlington location this time. While I got chicken and mac n cheese this time, I also love their brunch. Their pancakes are incredible, and so are their donuts!

Avenue Kitchen + Bar

My order (this particular time): fried fish and French fries

Avenue Kitchen + Bar in Somerville is another one of my favorite restaurants! On most days, they have specials. Monday is neighborhood appreciation night with free pizza toppings, Wednesday is Italian night, Friday is fish fry night, and Sunday is boozy brunch. I went on a Friday, and I had to get their crispy fish and salty fries. It’s always so good!

So far this year, every restaurant I’ve been to has hit the spot. I’m excited to see where I go next!
