One thing that the University of Florida is known for is its “work hard, play hard” culture. Of course, if you were able to get accepted, you know how to work hard. But do you know how to play hard? More importantly, what are students wearing to do this?
Regular decision release day is coming up soon. So, for all of the future baby gators: here is a guide for everything you need in your closet to look your best when going out in Gainesville, Florida.
Anything But Jean Shorts
“No jean shorts” is the cardinal rule of going out outfits at UF. It’s one of those things that every girl just knows not to do. But, at the start of the school year, it gets really hot out, even at night. So, what should you wear instead to stay cool?
My first recommendation is a denim mini skirt. I have one in blue, black and white. They are so cute, and they work with pretty much any outfit!
Another great option is a black mini skirt. If you’re looking for something dressier than a denim skirt, this is perfect.
If skirts aren’t your thing, some girls wear micro shorts. A lot of these come in fun patterns, colors or sequins. Micro shorts are a great way to make an outfit more interesting, especially if you are wearing a plain top.Â
Black Boots
Other than the classic beat-up white sneakers that everyone calls their “bar shoes,” black knee-high boots are a staple shoe for your going out outfits at UF. People wear these all the time, especially with a cute mini skirt.
I still have yet to buy a pair of black boots, and they’re one of those things that I always wish that I had when my bar shoes look a little too trashy with my outfit. Speaking from experience, if you don’t already have a pair of black boots, trust me, they are worth purchasing.
Dark-Colored Tops
One of the first things that I noticed when I came to UF is that people don’t usually wear colorful tops when going out. Most of my “going out tops” from high school are in bright colors, which I love (and still get a ton of use out of), but people just don’t wear them as much here. If you’re like me, make sure you get more tops in muted colors, such as navy, black or maroon.
Leather Jacket
Contrary to popular belief, Florida can get cold at night, especially during the winter months. A leather jacket is a great way to stay warm while making sure that you don’t ruin your cute outfit! Most girls wear black leather jackets, but I’ve also seen so many cute ones in brown, red and navy.
Fun Jewelry
Overall, the going out style at UF is pretty basic. As someone who loves fun clothes but also wants to follow the trends, I have had to find other ways to make my outfits more interesting. Lately, I have loved wearing fun, statement jewelry, and I have noticed a lot of other girls doing this, too. Statement jewelry can be anything you want, but some of my favorites are chunky charm necklaces, bangle bracelets and big earrings.Â
Overall, when you are getting ready to go out, it is important that you wear whatever makes you feel the most confident. Trends come and go, but confidence is always what makes an outfit stand out the most. Whether it’s your favorite mini skirt, a pair of black boots or a simple top with fun jewelry, the best outfits are the ones that make you feel like the best version of yourself!Â
