As we begin to transition from winter to (false) spring, we realize how many clothes we actually have. From winter coats, chunky sweaters, more hoodies than I can count, and boots, to t-shirts, light hoodies/sweatshirts, shorts, and tennis shoes, the unpredictable weather has our closets looking like a dressing room during back to school sales. Here’s a few quick tips to make it look like you just moved in:
Shoe Racks
There’s so many different shoes, and they all serve a purpose. Tennis shoes when you’re walking or exercising, slippers for ease and comfortability, snow boots for when they don’t clear the sidewalks very well, and heels or dress shoes for special occasions. You need to have all of these options, but they can take up a lot of space. Take advantage of shoe racks you can fit in your closet, it takes up more vertical space, rather than floor space. It also looks like you’re more put together.Â
Choose your favorites
If you’re like me, you love to have options. You have closet staples, but your outfits need to match your style and vibes of the day. Unfortunately, during this time of the year, the weather doesn’t allow for options. Pick a few of your favorite sweaters, hoodies, sweatpants, and t-shirts. You may repeat some outfits for a few weeks, but it’s better than your closet bursting at the seams. Make sure you have some practical pants too! Cute jeans with holes aren’t your friend with 20mph winds. Swap them out for some flared leggings instead!
Layers!
When it’s 20 degrees in the morning, and 72 degrees by noon, it makes choosing an outfit difficult. Pick a practical pair of jeans or leggings, a t-shirt, and shoes that will keep your feet warm outside, but not sweat when you’re in class. Grab your winter coat, maybe some gloves, and you’re prepared to be able to shed layers, but stay warm in the morning. Make sure to think about layers when picking what clothes to keep around.Â
Plan outfits ahead of time
When you need to have shorts, sweatpants, leggings, and jeans all at the same time, your dresser may not be able to keep up. One way to stop fighting with your drawers to close is by hanging them with your shirts or hoodies. You can put them on separate hangers, or all on one. It makes closet and dresser organization much simpler. As an added bonus, you don’t have to stress about what to wear! You already have it all planned out.Â
Organize the clothes you hang
Another way to make your closet feel cleaner is by finding an organization method you like. This can be organizing your clothes by color or category, or both! Whether you like your closet to look like a rainbow, or you like to categorize them by heavy coats, hoodies, sweatshirts, long sleeves, t-shirts, tank tops, etc, choosing an organization method that you like will make your closet much easier to look at!
