Are you both an FSU student and a fan of the show Survivor? Well, the Survivor Club at FSU is the perfect place for you. It’s a club inspired by the hit reality TV series that focuses on game strategy, alliances, teamwork, and challenges.
Home to hundreds of students and fans who participated in the FSU version of Survivor, the club started filming its 10th season during the weekend of Feb. 21. They’ve successfully filmed nine seasons, three miniseries, and two spin-offs.
Each season has a specific theme for the different teams, mirroring the actual show. The theme for Season 10 is brains vs. brawns vs. beauty. Personally, this might be one of my favorite themes I’ve seen from a Survivor season, which is why I’m honored to have been cast.
Each season of Survivor FSU is filmed on campus, where there are two full days of filming with just an overnight break. Seasons 1-5 are currently available on YouTube, featuring top-tier video editing and production that pairs with an introduction card remix of the “FSU War Chant.”
As someone who’s been through the application process for Survivor FSU, it’s pretty straightforward. Even if you’re someone who’s never watched the show, you’re still welcome to join. Personally, I’d recommend the club to those looking to meet new people and create lasting relationships since they foster such an open community.
Christian Hubicki, a professor at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, was a previous Survivor contestant in 2018, appearing on the 37th season (Survivor: David vs. Goliath). He’s now actually returning to the show for the 50th season. On top of hosting the season’s episode, the designated club hosts oversee themed meetings, watch parties, game nights, geocaching events, and more!
I sat down with a member of Survivor FSU and Season 9 winner, Charlie Sanchez, to ask a couple of questions about his experience.
Her Campus (HC): What’s your favorite memory from your season?
Charlie Sanchez (CS): There are so many. For sure, my number one favorite moment would have to be winning. Other than that, when I successfully planned a blind side by myself and took out the biggest threat to my game using an idol. I also really liked the confessionals.
HC: Why did you decide to join Survivor FSU?
CS: I’ve been a Survivor fan for years, and have always loved the show itself, so coming to FSU and finding out that they have a club specifically for it, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to experience not only playing a game but meeting like-minded people. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone. I’ve made some of my best friends from that club.
HC: What’s been the most beneficial thing you learned from participating?
CS: I feel as if Survivor has helped me learn more about myself and my own character. Before, I didn’t see myself as social in relation to others, but my experience definitely changed that and my perception of myself. I truly enjoyed meeting different kinds of people and knowing that I can interact with all of them.
As for this season, it was concluded following Feb. 22, and the winner is yours truly. Winning Survivor FSU Season 10 has been such an incredible experience for me and one of my favorite moments of my FSU career.
The club is very dedicated to its craft. The production team, especially the club president, Ryan Berman, put on an amazing game that more people in Tallahassee should know about!
