In 2023, Lana Del Rey released Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, and two more singles, “Henry, come on,” and “Bluebird” in 2025. On Feb. 17, she released her first song in months, called “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter,” which, supposedly, is the first song in preparation for her upcoming album, Stove.

Her new song seems to be a commentary on her new married life, with her repeatedly mentioning the stove inside her home, which she implies is more her husband’s home throughout the song. The video and the sound of the song are reminiscent of society’s old perception of femininity, and Del Rey carries a whimsical, almost Snow White-like quality in the music video with her lyrics and voice.

lyrics and sound

Throughout the song, Del Rey references her upcoming album Stove, continuously making comments about cooking her husband dinner on the stove in his house while he’s out hunting. In this way, she’s embracing the happiness of a more domestic life, and the peace that comes along with something as simple as cooking her newlywed husband’s dinner.

With her lyrics in this song, Del Rey is starting to change the narrative around her songs, moving away from the thoughts of death and depressed musings of the album Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, and shifting into a more mischievous and happier scene. The shift seems to indicate a change for the better in the emotional state of the notorious pop singer.

The sound in this song is more unexpected compared to the rest of her discography. Instead of the slow, rolling beats from previous albums like Lust for Life, Honeymoon, or Ultraviolence, “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter” has a faster, more upbeat aesthetic.

The whimsical song is fairytale-esque, from the unique chimes and jingles in the chorus to even the animated way she says, “Whoopsie daisy, yoo-hoo.”

the music video

The music video adds to the playfulness of the song, showing Del Rey in simple scenes around her house and outside.

She cooks on the stove that she mentions in the song, and wanders in the snow outside of her house until it covers her hair and dress. The video is shot in black and white, and she constantly sings to the camera as it follows her around her house.

The simplicity of the video seems to symbolize the peace that she feels she has gathered in the time she’s been married, almost as if her happiness has shifted into a black and white state with her husband, as if it’s always been that easy.

Stove

Del Rey has spoken about her upcoming 2026 album, Stove. She gave us little sneak peeks of what the album might resemble with “Henry, come on” and “Bluebird,” and she has implied that the album would be more country-leaning.

The album went through a few name changes, starting with Lasso and The Right Person Will Stay before the “Young and Beautiful” singer changed it to Stove, perhaps naming it after the lyrics of her new single.

She hasn’t given us a specific release date yet, but, if “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter” is any indication, the rest of the album will be worth the wait!
