State Patty’s began in 2007 when St. Patrick’s Day happened during Penn State’s spring break. Students did not want to miss celebrating with each other while off campus, so they created an alternative holiday that took place before break, known as State Patty’s. This unofficial event quickly grew into an annual tradition in State College, drawing large crowds and becoming one of the area’s most talked about student celebrations.

State Patty’s is more than just wearing green; it’s a chance to show off your personal style while celebrating one of the most fun holidays of the year. Whether you’re heading to grab drinks with a friend or go to a frat or party, finding a perfect outfit can be a challenge. Don’t worry. From casual looks to bold, festive styles, you have five outfit ideas that will make you feel lucky and stylish on this State Patty’s.

Classic Green With a Twist

Sometimes the simplest outfit makes the biggest statement. Start with a basic green or white T-shirt or sweater and pair it with jeans or a skirt. Add a fun accessory, such as a shamrock pin, green earrings or a cute hair clip. If you want to be a little bit more fun, try mixing patterns, such as green or plaid.

Shamrock Accessories Overload

If you’re not wearing full green outfits, focus on themed accessories. Think of Shamrock, earrings, necklaces, hats or even a green belt. Pair these items with a neutral outfit, such as white jeans and a black top, to make the accessories pop. You can even go all out with temporary green hair chalk or glitter. This look is perfect for students who want to participate in State Patty’s without committing to head-to-toe green.

DIY State Patty’s Outfit

For students who love crafting, a DIY outfit is a fun, budget-friendly way to celebrate. Take a plain T-shirt sweatshirt, add your own State Patty’s designs with fabric markers or iron-on patches. Add cute words, such as feeling lucky or shamrock, or cute shapes, like clovers or hearts. Pair with jeans, leggings or a skirt, and finally, finish a look with green sneakers. Not only will wearing your outfit be unique, but you’ll also get bragging rights for making it yourself.

Party – Ready Green Glam

Heading to a party or a night out? Bring some glam to your State Patty’s outfit. Try a green dress or sparkly skirt, pair it with gold accessories. A touch of glitter makeup or glitter spraying your hair adds that festive look. For those who like mixing patterns, greens you can top with black jeans or leather pants can make a bold statement. This outfit is perfect for students celebrating at bars, frats or themed events while keeping it fun.

Sporty and Comfortable Campus Look

If you’re spending the day on campus or at an event, comfort is key. Combine a green hoodie or sweatshirt with leggings or joggers and sneakers. Add themed socks or a cute hat to show your spirit. This outfit works well for frats, indoors especially. You’ll be ready for whatever the weather brings.

No matter which outfit you choose, State Patty’s is the perfect time to get creative and show your festive, cute outfits. Pick your favorite outfit, pair your outfit with friends for photos, but remember, have fun!
