We’re back on campus and Harry Styles is back in our lives. The singer’s long awaited return was supported by the announcement of his fourth studio album, Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally, set to release on March 6th with the lead single “Aperture” now available on streaming platforms. On my first listen, I was shocked. The electronic dance track is nothing like anything Styles has released, but it has me thinking: am I a techno girlie?
No. I’m not. But I cannot stop listening to this track. My initial thoughts consisted of 1, “Get me to a club with this playing on repeat” 2, “Wow this will go crazy live” and 3, “Someone edit this over the Heated Rivalry Club Scene.” As I threw the song on repeat, I began to understand the meaning and lyrics. The whole idea is to let go a little bit; to dance, and enjoy togetherness. In a recent interview with Capital Breakfast, Styles revealed it’s inspired by being on both sides of a crowd–one of which he’s performing to and the other in which he is a part of (which he did a lot of in his 3 year break).
With his upcoming tour, and 30 shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden, I hope I can immerse myself in the idea of “Aperture.” There is no place like home, and for me, that home is at a Harry Styles concert. There is no other place where I’ve felt truly alive and completely and unapologetically myself than at “Love on Tour” doing the boot scoot (I went 4 times and haven’t felt a high like it).
It’s an exciting time to be a Harry fan. A new era, new music, and new aesthetic all to immerse yourself into. But I still have one question lingering: Can I bring my feather boa to the disco?
