This semester, I have the privilege and honor of working with Bowling Green State University’s ZiggyTHON as a Morale Captain. Being as excited as I am, I thought it would only be appropriate to write about what ZiggyTHON is, why we do what we do, and how to get involved.

What is Ziggython?

ZiggyTHON is a year-long fundraiser that benefits the Toledo Children’s Hospital, which works alongside Nationwide Children’s Hospital, which is our local hospital in the Children’s Miracle Network. The Children’s Miracle Network supports 170 hospitals across the United States and Canada. Over 1.8 million children’s lives are impacted by the Nationwide Children’s Hospital through multiple pediatric specialty services.

For the Kids

ZiggyTHON at BGSU works to assist the Toledo Children Hospital to fund for the children. From funding for new equipment, to new toys for the kids, ZiggyTHON is dedicated to helping kids from donations, partnerships, and our various forms of student participation.

As a Morale Captain, I am directly participating in the 12-hour Dance Marathon. The Dance Marathon main event features dancing, hearing stories from Miracle children, and other fun tabling activities throughout the hours. Morale Captains are there to keep up the morale of participants and come up with a dance for others to learn. So far, I have had a thrilling time with my morale family, as many of my sorority sisters are Morale Captains. And I remain eager for the main event.

The impact

ZiggyTHON has been at BGSU for 31 years and continues to impact children annually. BGSU was one of the first universities in the nation to host a Dance Marathon. Last year, we raised $39,680.89 for the children. This year’s theme is “Under the Sea,” with hopes of 500 attendees. I am so grateful to be a part of this organization, and I cannot fathom the amount of fun that I will have making a difference for the kids.

The main event will take place March 28, 2026, at the Perry Field House from 10am to 10pm. If you can attend, I would highly recommend coming! This is an impactful experience for all who participate.
