2025 brought a great number of movies to the theaters, from Sinners to Thunderbolts to some of our more recent releases with Hamnet and Avatar: Fire and Ash. It’s safe to say that 2025 did not disappoint. Beyond the number of great film releases seen in theaters during 2025, 2026 seems to have quite the roster itself. With that in mind, here are the biggest and most anticipated film releases for 2026!
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
Fans of The Hunger Games trilogy will definitely know of Sunrise on the Reaping. This movie, based on the book released in March of last year, follows the franchise’s beloved character Haymitch as we get a look into the 50th Hunger Games. After the success of A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, it’s no surprise that Sunrise on the Reaping is getting the attention it is. Unfortunately, the movie is still a ways away, with a release date of November 20th, though it’ll make the perfect film to see over Thanksgiving!
Project Hail Mary
On the slightly sooner side of things, Project Hail Mary is set to release on March 20th this year, and its popularity is not to be underestimated. Project Hail Mary is a huge sci-fi story telling the story of Ryland Grace, who awakens on a spaceship with no recollection of how he got there. Initially a book by Andy Weir, author of The Martian, this film stars Ryan Gosling on an epic space odyssey! If you haven’t had the opportunity, take the time now to get through the novel and be ready for the full theatrical release!
The Odyssey
I’m sure most of us remember reading The Odyssey in school. Well, coming to theaters this July is its film adaptation! This story follows the events of The IlIad through Odysseus’ journey home. This movie is being directed by Christopher Nolan, who did big movies like Oppenheimer and Interstellar, but also features a huge cast with the likes of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and so many more.
Avengers: Doomsday
Marvel fans have most certainly been keeping up with Doomsday, which is set to release this December. It’s the first Avengers movie since Endgame, and it’s definitely going to be a big one. Marvel has been slowly teasing the film across a handful of trailers already released, teasing the likes of Captain America, the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Thor, alongside so many others.Â
Dune: Part Three
In other exciting news, coming in December is Dune: Part Three. The third film of the series is set to follow the events of the first two films and cover the contents of Dune: Messiah in the novel series. The first Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve and released in 2021, was quickly followed by Dune: Part Two, and both movies adapted the events of the first book. While Dune fans are most certainly excited for the release of the third film, it’s not too late for you to hop on that train. The book is long, but with this movie releasing at the end of the year, you can most definitely complete the book in time.Â
Overall, this year is sizing up to be a great one for films. Though I only spent time with a couple of the year’s films, it’s worth noting some of the other films to come. The list includes: The Devil Wears Prada 2, Narnia, Jumanji 3, Sense and Sensibility, Wuthering Heights, Spider-Man Brand New Day, Moana (Live-Action), Scream 7, and even Toy Story 5. This year will be an exciting one, so start planning what movies to over the coming months!
