Graduating is a big deal. Getting to walk across the stage after four years of school is a really exciting feeling. But, to be honest, it can also feel really daunting. Graduating college opens up so many doors to the future, but on the other hand, it can bring on feelings of confusion and stress. School, at least for me, is almost like a security blanket — giving that up feels really scary. If 2026 is the year you graduate college, you’re probably thinking that your New Year’s resolutions have to be on point this year. And honestly? I kind of think you’re right.
If you want to set some goals for yourself this year as you prepare onward into life as a post-grad, you’ve come to the right place. It’s hard coming up with resolutions in general, let alone when you have a big year ahead that feels full of uncertainty. For some inspiration — and maybe just some peace of mind — I asked five graduating college seniors to share their 2026 new year’s resolutions. Here’s what they’re manifesting.
“Keep learning”
“Keep doing my own research in history and keep learning without the motivation of school and paper deadlines.” – Stephanie, University of Waterloo
“Get accepted into grad school”Â
“This year, I want to find employment somewhere that can utilize my degree, and get accepted into grad school.” – Isabella, Toronto Metropolitan University
“Ask more people for help”Â
“Do a little bit of work every day so I don’t pile stuff up for exam season. Schedule more sessions with TMU tutors and go to prof office hours. Learn another language, Ask more people for help — it has taken me a painful amount of time to realize that networking 100% works and gets you to better places.” – Kate*, Toronto Metropolitan UniversityÂ
“Enjoy life”Â
“Enjoy life, appreciate school and the social aspect of it.” – Zara, Carleton University
“Be more present”
“For the upcoming year, I have many resolutions. My first would be to cherish all my friendships. To have friends and be with them is so fulfilling, so I want to try to be more present. My second would be to continue on with my growing self-compassion. I want to continue being kind and understanding to myself and to be in a more positive place with my being. My third resolution would be to work out more … it helps with my anxiety and overall mood. My last resolution would be to end school on a high note and to continue working hard in my last semester, but also in whatever work situation I end up in.” – Olivia, York University
