Finals are in full swing: late nights, little sleep, and caffeine-fuelled students are the norm this time of year. Carleton students need to know the best spots to dedicate a full day of studying to and start the exam season off in the best way. Here is a guide to the five best places to get you and your friends out of your rooms and off campus while studying for finals.

1. Roosters

Start your morning off early with a quick stop on campus in Roosters, located on the fourth floor of Nideyinan. This campus favourite is filled with comfortable seating and a variety of delicious drinks and snacks to fuel your brain and prepare you for a long day of studying.

Early mornings are the most preferable for a productive start to your day and getting into a calm mood is the best way to start your study crawl. After finishing your first cup of coffee and an hour of studying, before hopping on the number seven bus and heading 15 minutes up Bank Street to your next study spot, hop off the bus a little early to get some early morning sun and fresh air, both things most students are lacking during this cold, dark time of year.

2. Drip House

In the heart of the Glebe, Drip House is your next go-to spot. With its modern and contemporary design style, Drip House provides a great experience to focus on your work and be your most productive self this finals season. With a variety of hot and cold drinks available, you’ll be sure to find something to suit your study cravings.

Drip House offers all the classic coffee shop favourites, from lattes to classic drip coffee, there is something for everyone. The coffee shop provides a perfect ambiance for studying, with comfortable seating and plenty of table space to fit all your materials and snacks.

3. Little Victories

If you have a small study group, Little Victories coffee shop has three locations around downtown Ottawa. Stopping at one is crucial during your next study crawl. Their minimalistic style allows for a peaceful study stop, giving your brain a chance to relax and focus during the stressful finals season.

With each location offering its own unique set of vibes there’s a location for everyone. The Glebe location offers a serene, calming environment, perfect for solo, or small group study crawls. The Queen location might be small but it brings its own unique environment to the table. Its vibrant coral pop of colour and natural lighting are perfect for refreshing your brain and resetting your mind before continuing to study.

The final location on Elgin is perfect for group studying, its rustic modern aesthetic will suit your downtown study desires. This location brings lots of seating and large tables to fit all your study materials, while enjoying a scenic view of some of Ottawa’s most well known monuments. After finishing up at Little Victories take a quick trip to the ByWard market for your most instagram worthy study spot.

4. Miss Bean Cafe

Miss Bean Cafe is by far the most instagram worthy visit on this list, if you’re looking for cute sandwiches and unique drink flavours this one’s a must. With comfortable seating and large tables, it’s one of the best places in Ottawa to study alone or with a group of friends—there is something for everyone here.

It’s cute and luxe aesthetic brings a whole new vibe to the study crawl. It’s a perfect spot to refuel and have lunch before locking in for a few hours. Its background music consists of many main pop star girls, who’ll inspire you to be your best self while studying.

Without a doubt Miss Bean will be one of your go-to spots for food and studying all finals season and second semester. After finishing up your last cup of coffee, make your way back to campus for the final stretch of your study crawl.

5. Richcraft Hall

Richcraft hall is your final destination before you pack it up for the day. Make your way to the third floor and find a seat overlooking the canal, enjoy the view while you finish up that last bit of work. The quiet, open concept area, is perfect to help you reenergize and power through your studying. Richcraft is the perfect end to your day, its plant wall and modern design will help you relax before heading home.

After finishing up with your work for the day, take a quick trip outside for a short walk along the Rideau River to reground your mind and take a moment to pause and reflect on your day. So, this finals season be the academic weapon you long to be and follow this study crawl guide.
