As an unfortunate social media addict who simultaneously hates it all,
I love, love, love Pinterest.
It’s one of the only social media platforms that actually inspires, and doesn’t require intense doomscrolling and brain rot to enjoy like TikTok and Instagram. There isn’t a horrible amount of comparison or constant social pressure to connect with people on it, similar to Instagram and Snapchat. It is simply just looking at pretty pictures with the intent of inspiring you to do something similarly in your own life.
I first got on Pinterest in 2018 or 2019 using my mom’s account because I wasn’t allowed to have my own at the time, and I used it for wallpapers for my phone, outfit ideas, and memes from the shows and movies I loved at the time. At the time, I was REALLY into Star Wars and Anne of Green Gables, which is part of why my mom banned me from using her Pinterest because I was becoming “too addicted” to it.
Oh, well. In 2022, I got my own personal account.
Now, I still use it for outfit ideas and pretty pictures, but I also like to create boards for all of the interests that I have to in a way showcase the different parts of my life.
I like to joke that if you look at my Pinterest boards, you will learn everything you need to know about me as a person.
But it’s true, I have a board for my favorite celebrities, my favorite movies, my favorite cities, my favorite books, and so much more. I like to think of it as an easy way for someone to learn quickly everything they need to know about my interests.
I even have boards for my best friend and my boyfriend that have pins of things that remind me of them, saved in the boards as a fun little way for me to show how I view them. It’s a fun way to show your interpretations of people or things as well.
It contrasts so differently from other social media platforms because it’s not very addictive or demanding of attention; instead, it’s a peaceful, fun place to go to unwind and listen to music for a bit. And, I feel productive because it gives me ideas for what I want to do in my own life, whether that’s a room dĂ©cor idea or an outfit idea; it makes me think instead of just numbing my brain cells.
It truly is such a great platform, and it’s one I hold near and dear to my heart and love using as a way to relax and unwind. In other words, I love love love it.
