I know this is the last week of classes, and everyone’s about to head home for the holiday break, but for those of us (me included) who are stuck in Winston-Salem until the very end of the finals period, here are some super easy ways to celebrate the season!
- Go look at some Christmas lights!Â
There are plenty of ways to do this, whether it’s piling in a car and driving around with your friends, going to a local event, or even just watching one of those decorating competition shows! I went to the Greensboro Science Center’s Winter Wonderlights event, and really enjoyed all of the decorations and exhibits…especially the Dinosaur Disco!
- Decorate your dorm!Â
While you may not be allowed a live tree, a small tabletop Christmas tree isn’t too expensive, and you only need some lights and ornaments to make your room feel truly festive! This year, I also have some multi-color lights strung around my room, and it makes the cramming sessions feel super-cozy!
- Enjoy the flavors of the season!
Enjoy baking some Christmas cookies (the Pillsbury premade dough is the G.O.A.T.), a seasonal drink, or any other food that brings you comfort! Especially with how cold it has been, I’ve been loving a good hot chocolate while I stake out ZSR.
- Make presents for your friends and family!Â
If you’re a crafty person, like I am, it is always worth the trek out to the WakerSpace to have a relaxing break! If you’re not, just writing some nice cards or letters is a super sweet gesture, and always makes me feel closer to my loved ones while I’m on campus.
- Watch a classic Christmas movie!Â
Pretty much the entire Rankin-Bass cinematic universe (think: Rudolph and Frosty) is available on campus, and every streaming platform has something cute to offer! This year, I’ve been enjoying balancing my childhood favorites with some cheesy romances.
So, with these tips in mind, have fun and happy holidays!
