Chances are, if you enjoy curating aesthetics, you’ll enjoy using Pinterest.
Whether you access the application through the desktop website or the mobile app, Pinterest gives users the ability to save and organize different images, or “pins.” Pins are collected into boards, and the app functions as a digital moodboard full of magazine cut-outs, quotes, and memes, among other things. In my own experience, Pinterest has helped me develop my personal and artistic style!
As I recount these experiences, I hope you’ll begin to realize (if you haven’t already) how Pinterest holds the potential to develop your own personal tastes as well.
- PERSONAL STYLE
-
This is by far the most impactful way Pinterest has influenced my life.
The app is my go-to for viewing new fashion trends and interesting clothing choices. When I was first developing my own sense of style, Pinterest quickly became my main source of inspiration. While having access to so many trends can be overwhelming and feed overconsumption, I believe using Pinterest mindfully can help mitigate these issues.
As tempting as it is to buy every cute outfit combo you come across, it would be simply impossible to do so sustainably. When I use Pinterest, I save and pin every style I like, but as I go through my organized boards, I try to highlight the patterns they reveal. If only one of my pins features a flowy pink dress, I probably would not get much use out of that single dress. However, if black tights are a consistent pattern throughout my saved pins, it would make more sense to consider getting a pair and using them in multiple outfits.
As I look through my pins, I’m always trying to go deeper than the trends and colors I like to what really suits me and would become a closet staple.
- ART STYLE
-
Another key way Pinterest has influenced me personally is through my art. I’ve always found myself drawn to other artists, and as I encountered more and more different styles, I began wanting to curate my own.
Similar to fashion, Pinterest became a way for me to save ideas, poses, and art styles that I liked and could draw inspiration from. Using the app, I learned shading and started implementing interesting color schemes into my artwork.
Pinterest helped me to better discover myself, and is a useful tool for anyone looking to do the same.
