Wicked: For Good has officially hit theaters, and with it comes a whole new soundtrack of emotional, catchy, and inspiring songs for us to sing along to. While each song can likely be applied to different aspects of each of our lives, and we all will surely have songs that we call “ours,” some songs from the Wicked movies scream certain qualities that feel specific to the zodiac signs.

Below, you can find the song from both Wicked movies that I would give to you based on your zodiac sign!

“The Wizard and I”- ARIES

Starting off strong with bold, adventurous, optimistic Aries! The song “The Wizard and I” is a song of hopeful excitement about the prospect of exploring the Emerald City and meeting the wizard, who Elphaba believes will change her life. The song is full of spirit, and Elphaba daydreams about her meeting with the Wizard propelling her into a life of renown and reviving her from her lifelong role as a social pariah. Aries are known for their energy, their ambitious tenacity, and their tendency towards impulsivity. The lyrics “Unlimited / My future is unlimited / And I’ve just had a vision, almost like a prophecy / I know it sounds truly crazyAnd true, the vision’s hazy / But I swear, someday, there’ll be / A celebration throughout Oz / That’s all to do with me” is reminiscent of the most optimistic Aries who channels their adventurous spirit into all they do, in this case, magic.

“For Good” – TAURUS

Maybe I am biased because I am a Taurus, and this is my favorite song from Wicked, but I think it is my experience as a Taurus that helps me identify their qualities with the song. Perhaps the most emotionally charged of both soundtracks, “For Good” archives the profound bond that Glinda and Elphaba share – a unique understanding and respect for each other, despite acknowledging that the paths that each of them is going down is pulling them apart. Glinda and Elphaba sing to each to express how deeply the other has impacted who they are as people, emphasizing that their lives would be completely different without the friendship they shared.

And now whatever way our stories end / I know you have re-written mine / By being my friend.” What lyrics better summarize the loyalty that defines a Taurus? Tauruses are known to put their friends above everything, and once a Taurus is your friend it is rare that you will lose them. However, Tauruses are also earth signs, meaning they are practical and realistic, which helps them understand when their friendship is coming to an end, just as Elphaba and Glinda do in “For Good.” However, even if a friendship comes to an end, a Taurus will remember, just as Elphaba and Glinda, how much that friendship meant to them at one point in their life, as the song so aptly describes, “like a handprint on my heart”.

“What Is This Feeling?”- GEMINI

“What Is This Feeling?” is the song that gets stuck in my head the most. And just like the song, its zodiac counterpart, Gemini is also very hard to forget. Geminis are enlivened by wit and excited conversation, constantly striving for intellectual and emotional stimulation to keep them inspired throughout their lives, even when this excitement comes in unconventional ways. In this song, Elphaba and Glinda struggle to acclimate to each other after unexpectedly becoming roommates. What happens next is an epic battle to see who can aggravate the other most and as is clear in the song, this occurs through witty comebacks and heated conversation. Despite the overt hostility from both characters, underneath it all is a charming edge of playfulness which I think perfectly illustrates the cunning nature of a Gemini. “With simple, utter loathing / There’s a strange exhilaration / In such total detestation / It’s so pure, so strong.” The “strange exhilaration” of their conflict is perhaps the best illustration of a playful and combative Gemini who finds subtle pleasure in the moments that break monotony.

“I’m Not That Girl”- CANCER

Cancers are sensitive, often characterized by their deep devotion and their nurturing spirit. One of the best things about Cancers is how hard they love, fostering loyalty and care for those in their orbit. However, alongside their devotion comes the tendency to succumb into self criticism and comparison when their love is not reciprocated or is unbalanced. This is exemplified in this song, in which Elphaba acknowledges that she has fallen deeply in love with Fiyero, who is in a relationship with Glinda. Elphaba’s intense love is evident in the passionate song, but it becomes overshadowed by her feelings of inadequacy when she sings, “He could be that boy, but I’m not that girl.” Elphaba continues to compare herself to Glinda, allowing herself to feel the devastation of an unrequited love, portraying a Cancer’s tendency towards emotion. Finally, the lyrics: “Every so often, we long to steal / To the land of what-might-have-been / But that doesn’t soften the ache we feel / When reality sets back in,” perfectly encapsulate a water sign like Cancer’s ability to dream and fantasize about what they desire in life, and begrudgingly having to return back down to real life and abandon their daydreaming.

“Popular”- LEO

Maybe the most obvious of all these matching, what zodiac sign is better exemplified by the song “Popular” than a Leo? “Popular” is a song in which Glinda both praises herself and draws attention to her own beauty, charm, and popularity, while also guiding Elphaba on how to emulate the qualities she has mastered over the years. This vibrant self-love accompanied with teasing direction is very Leo. Glinda’s shimmering confidence is evident not only in her outward appearance and the validation that comes from external popularity, but also comes from Glinda’s self assurance in her abilities to help Elphaba become popular. Glinda sings, “And even in your case/ though its the toughest case I’ve yet to face / don’t worry I’m determined to succeed / follow my lead / and yes indeed / you will be / popular.” In other words, Glinda’s belief in herself comes from her beauty and her brains which also fuels the fire sign Leo. The song is also quippy and amusing, which often shines through in a Leo’s personality, showing the fire that is in each fire sign.

“Girl In the Bubble”- VIRGO

The first time hearing this song in theaters was an emotional and touching experience. In “Girl In the Bubble” Glinda recalls the moments in her life when she has stood on the sidelines and allowed herself to remain idle in order to maintain control. However, this song is Glinda’s realization that her attempt to keep control over her life has actually caused her to lose her control, as she has watched her relationships fall apart because of her lack of action. Virgos often find themselves in this predicament- teetering between the careful curated life they have curated for themselves, and the experiences they desire for themselves but are fearful to participate in. Virgos pride themselves on their ability to stay in control, reining in their emotions and not allowing others to sway them. However, as is indicated in this song, it often comes along with feelings of loss. Glinda voices this uniquely Virgo feeling in the following lyrics: “If she comes down from the sky / Givеs the real world a try / Who in the world is she now?”

“I Couldn’t Be Happier”- LIBRA

Glinda sings “I Couldn’t Be Happier” during a pivotal moment in her life. She is the figurehead of Oz, and has just announced her engagement to Fiyero, who is caught off guard and reacts with less enthusiasm than Glinda was anticipating. In this moment, Glinda reflects on how she has finally achieved her dreams and she has the seeming perfect life, but still finds herself let down by the outcomes without being able to pinpoint why. Glinda has lived a life built on others’ perceptions of her, valuing her image above all else, even over genuine relationships. This song is the moment when Glinda realizes that her life is void of substance, despite finally obtaining what it is she has “wanted” her whole life. This is a Libra moment to a T. Libras are known to focus on aesthetics and perception, often neglecting the practice of forming genuine connections and instead becoming who they think they should be, or what will look the best. This feeling is summarized in the following lines: “No, I couldn’t be happier / Though it is, I admit, the tiniest bit / Unlike I anticipated / But I couldn’t be happier / Simply couldn’t be happier / Well, not simply, ’cause getting your dreams, it’s strange, but it seems / A little, well, complicated.”

“No Good Deed”- SCORPIO

“No Good Deed” is a powerful moment when Elphaba refuses to live by Ozian societal standards anymore. She understands at this point that no matter how hard she attempts to prove her loyalty to the people of Oz and dismantle the corrupt political system, people are going to villainize her and make her the scapegoat. In this song, Elphaba owns everything that the masses are telling her, accepting both the good and bad parts of herself and choosing to prioritize herself rather than trying to please others. The intensity of Elphaba’s feelings in this moment are reminiscent of the energy of Scorpios. Elphaba sings, “I’ve tried everything, and the world still punishes me. Fine. I’ll become exactly what they think I am.” This is a turning point many Scorpios face when they decide to finally accept the negativity that has been thrust on them and reclaim it on their own terms. Just as Elphaba finally accepts herself as “The Wicked Witch,” Scorpios also often experience resentment and bitterness which over time hardens into resilience and a newfound self of empowered identity.

“Dancing Through Life”- SAGITTARIUS

Fiyero’s introduction in Wicked is one of the most memorable scenes in the movie. He immediately introduces both the characters in the movie and the audience watching to the energy, excitement, and amusement that guides him. The song is a celebration of life— Fiyero’s advice to the school of Shiz to stop thinking so much and just have fun. Not only does Fiyero enliven the school, but he also has the unique ability to inspire and rally the crowd, infecting those around him with his care-free personality. This subtle leadership and guidance towards a sensual existence reminds me of a playful Sagittarius. There is no sign quite like Sagittarius, with the ability to evoke a lust for life in others. “Life’s more fraught less for the thoughtless,” is just one of Fiyero’s philosophies for a more enjoyable existence that is similar to a Sagittarius’. The chorus captures a Sagittarius’ vibrance: “Dancing through life, mindless and careless / Make sure you’re where less trouble is rife / Woes are fleeting, blows are glancing / When you’re dancing through life.”

“No Place Like Home”- CAPRICORN

But Oz is more than just a place / It’s a promise, an idea / And I want to help make it come true.” These are the impactful words Elphaba sings to the animals that are fleeing Oz as it becomes a more hostile environment to minorities. Capricorns are fiercely loyal, with an unending reserve of ambition. This passionate song exhibits those Capricorn qualities as Elphaba relays her plan to stay and fight for the idea of Oz that she knows can exist. Elphaba loves her home and is willing to fight for it, possessing a relentless determination to achieve her goals. This zeal is so very Capricorn, and we cannot help but feel inspired by Elphaba’s spirit, just as Capricorns inspire us to remain steadfast in our ambitions and firm in the decisions we have made.

“Defying Gravity”- AQUARIUS

”Defying Gravity” is arguably the most meaningful moment in both movies. At the end of the first movie, it is when Elphaba abandons the habits of pleasing people, choosing to leave behind her dreams of becoming renowned by the Wizard, and prioritizing instead her own unique qualities. Her whole life, Elphaba has been shamed for being different, for not fitting into the cookie cutter roles Oz has laid out for her to fall into. Elphaba sings, “Something has changed within me / something is not the same / I’m through with playing by the rules of someone else’s game.” She is embracing her own freedom, accepting her differences from the rest of society and acknowledging them as defining parts of herself worthy of being celebrated. An Aquarius stands out for similar reasons, often finding it difficult to suppress their own uniqueness to satisfy others. And just like Elphaba, an Aquarius can only find true self love and freedom when they learn how to celebrate their own differences and separate themselves from the confines and restrictions of a society that has never understood them.

“As Long As You’re Mine”- PISCES

“As Long As You’re Mine” is a sensual and emotional song in which Elphaba and Fiyero finally succumb to the all-encompassing feelings they have for each other. The depth of their love for each other is captured in the following lyrics: “My wildest dreamings could not foresee / lying beside you / with you wanting me.” What defines this song as uniquely Pisces however, is the context of the song in the movie. At this moment, Elphaba and Fiyero are fugitives of Oz, and both understand that the likelihood of their relationship surviving is very slim. Further, the relationship is forbidden— they are expressing their love to each other on the day when Fiyero was supposed to marry Glinda, Elphaba’s closest friend. This layer of forbidden desire heightens the passion, making the song even more charged. Pisces are water signs, known for their sensitivity and intuition, along with their intense emotion. Pisces, especially, are known to submit themselves to their own passions, allowing their feelings to sweep them away no matter the context, reveling in the depth of it. Pisces often abandon the consequences, abandoning themselves to their emotions and romanticizing this process no matter the outcome. “I’ve lost all resistance / and crossed some borderline / and if it turns out / its over too fast / I’ll make every moment last / as long as you’re mine.” It doesn’t get more Pisces than that.
