If you’re anything like me, you can’t help but love a good movie set in the 1970s. Whether you love them for the fashion, the music or the overall classic ‘70s vibe, there’s just something special about them. Here is my top four must-watch list of the best movies set in the ‘70s.

4. “Bohemian Rhapsody”

“Bohemian Rhapsody” is a biopic based on the famous band Queen. This movie does a beautiful job following the development of this classic ‘70s band by immersing you in the ‘70s rock world. If you’re in the mood for a movie to make you feel all your emotions in a little over two hours, “Bohemian Rhapsody” is the perfect movie for you. I particularly love this movie because of the way the amazing cast portrays the life and legacy of Queen. Though lead actor Rami Malek does not actually do any of the singing in this movie his acting skills are impeccable and really make you feel like you are following Freddy Mercury’s journey.

3. “Dazed and Confused”

Nothing is more of a staple ‘70s style movie than “Dazed and Confused.” This coming-of-age movie depicts all the funny classic stereotypes of high school, from the senior jocks to the nerdy freshmen, this movie covers it all.

What makes this movie particularly unique is that it takes place in just one day. Because of this unique time frame, it really makes you feel as if you’re also experiencing this crazy night with them. I think this movie is the perfect watch for a large group as it can be taken very unseriously and yet there are serious themes embedded into it. Overall, “Dazed and Confused” is a ‘70s classic with all of its silly stereotypes of high school kids and their journey of facing adulthood.

2. “Rocketman”

“Rocketman” is a very special movie that turns the life story of famous musician Elton John into a musical fantasy. The movie follows Elton John from a young age until adulthood, showing all of his experiences as a performer in the 1970s. This movie is a great watch with the family and has a little bit for everyone, including good music, plots of love and friendship and, of course, amazing costumes. I find this movie to be especially impressive as the entire cast, including lead actor Taron Edgerton, does actually sing all of the songs in the movie. This is highly impressive as not only are his acting skills bringing Elton John’s story to life, but he is also encompassing Elton John’s voice in all of his songs.

1. “Almost Famous”

“Almost Famous” is by far my favorite movie of all time! Not only does this movie do a great job with its fashion and music selection, but it takes you along on a cross-country journey with a rock and roll band and their hippie “band-aid” Penny Lane. The main character, William Miller, is a 15-year-old journalist following the band Stillwater on their American tour. On his journey, he is surrounded by hippies, rock ‘n’ rollers and all the ‘70s classics. Out of all the 1970s-style movies, “Almost Famous” has to steal the spotlight with its fantastic, heartwarming and action-packed coming-of-age story.
