It can feel like your gameday clothes are going to waste once November ends, but that doesn’t mean your closet has to go into hibernation.

I am – and always have been – a diehard Mizzou fan. This year, we had eight home games and of course, I had to go to every single one, plus an away game.  But now, it feels like the money I spent on all of those gameday outfits is going to waste… I mean, where am I going to wear white cowboy boots or a giant gold necklace again?

So, I started brainstorming. Just because gamedays are ending, doesn’t mean there are 50 pieces in my closet I can never wear again!

Some of the most popular trends this year included: black boots, neck scarves, huge statement pieces and, of course, a mini skirt. Here’s how I’m going to style my gameday essentials so they’ll last me just a bit longer.

Black Boots

This was my splurge piece this year. The piece everyone had and I really wanted, but shoes – even from Amazon – are not cheap. Since I got my heeled black boots, I’ve worn them twice, once to a game and once for Halloweekend (they really, really hurt my feet).

But to get my money’s worth, I’m going to have to do a little better than that. So, with the help of fuzzy socks and maybe an Advil, I have some ideas on how to style these for winter!

  1. Black boots would be so cute for a fancier winter birthday party. I’m imagining a sweater, short skirt, tights and knee-high boots! As a December birthday girl, I would love to see this outfit at my party.
  2. I will definitely be wearing these on New Year’s Eve. It’ll be my first year where I can go out as I turn 21 in December, so I’ll want to dress up. For this, I might pair a shorter dress with a leather jacket and boots.

Black boots aren’t as versatile, but there are opportunities to wear them for more than four quarters.

Gold Statement Necklace

When I bought this necklace, my first thought was that it would not stay in trend for much longer. Suffice to say, the days of a chunky necklace may be limited, but I’m planning on utilizing them as long as I can.

  1. Currently, this is my go-to night out necklace. It’s bold and pairs perfectly with jeans and a black top (my standard night out outfit). I’ve been in college for three years, so sometimes my outfits get a little old. On any given night, you’ll find me in a denim skirt and black bodysuit or some other iteration – this can really elevate an otherwise boring fit!
  2. This would be so cute with a Christmas outfit. I’m not sure what I’m wearing yet for Christmas Eve Service, but generally, I keep it simpler and classier. Adding a pop of gold would be really cute and a great way to utilize a piece I can’t wear every day.

Trends are cyclical, and so maybe I’ll look back and roll my eyes about wearing a necklace almost the size of my head, but for now, I’m going to embrace it.

I never realized just how much I needed a mini skirt until I got to college. Gamedays, nights out, church or otherwise, 50% of my time is spent in a denim skirt. This one, I will admit, may have to stay in the closet, though, until it warms up a bit. It pains me to say, but at least I’ve gotten my cost-per-wear out of it!

I never thought I would be the type to wear a scarf around my neck in any situation, but that’s the trend this year, and who am I to deny it? Though I’ll probably be swapping the neck scarf for a winter scarf, there are still ways to incorporate it into my everyday looks.

  1. Currently, I have my black and white polka dot neck scarf tied around the handle of my purse. It’s so cute and such a fun way to make my shoulder bag stand out. Plus, everyone has the same bag in college, so it’s a lot easier to spot.
  2. It would be a really cute belt around a pair of jeans or a skirt.
  3. Last, but certainly not least, wear it as a necklace. Hear me out, one of my best friends did this by knotting it in certain places and then putting a charm in the middle. I think that would be super chic for any event you have this winter.

I might have to retire my jersey and denim skirt until next August, but everything else is totally doable and may elevate a look more than you think.
