So, the semester is over, you’re done with your finals and back home in your bedroom and all you want to do is sleep, right? While that sounds like the perfect way to reset during the long-awaited winter break, there are other ways to truly recharge and recover from the demands of the semester.
The first thing that you can do to start your break strong is reflect on your past semester and write goals for the next semester. What would you change? What would you keep the same? And what are your goals? Writing down these affirmations and goals allows you to visualize and work towards them. To push it a step further, creating a vision board for your year as a whole or a journal would serve as good documentation and manifestation for the year to come.
Next up, create a routine. During the semester you had a rough schedule for the things you did daily; it should be the same for when you go back home. Now it doesn’t have to be anything extraordinary, but something that provides structure into your days back home. Whether that be taking a nightly walk, or visiting your hometown coffee shop every Monday, that little bit of routine creates a pattern from where you started earlier.
Finally, spend time with your loved ones, whether that be your immediate family, school friends, etc. After being away from people you love, you miss their energy and company. So, as much as most of us will lie and say we’re not homesick, the feeling of reconnecting with our family back home is rejuvenating and is the core part to any winter break reset.
