Every girl knows the struggle of doom scrolling through Pinterest or Instagram, finding the perfect, most aesthetic outfits to pull off and wear out, but then realizing you don’t have any pieces to recreate them with. With no funds for a shopping spree as a college student, and being fed up with the basic jeans and plain shirt combo. What will you ever do?
Don’t panic – your future self won’t be too happy about digging into your savings to buy clothes that you will (realistically) only wear a few times. You don’t necessarily need to wear the same outfits; you need to spice them up for the fall season. Take these five items that are most likely in your closet already to maximize your fall outfit potential.
- Keeping it Cozy With Leg Warmers
-
We’re taking a trip back to the ’80s. Leg warmers are the first step to making a perfect fall-esque outfit. My personal favorite way to style them is under my boots, with the tops poking out a little bit.
The tops of the leg warmers not only add a little more warmth but also create a cozy feel to your whole outfit. If you don’t have leg warmers, try taking some long socks to make them stick out too.
- Scarves: The Multi-Styler
-
Fall and wintertime bring the holidays, hot chocolate and joy, but also bring freezing temperatures and snow, especially in State College. To keep your body warmer and further upgrade a basic outfit, a scarf from your closet is the perfect solution.
Options are not just limited to the classic tie around your neck look. Try to change it up a bit; tie the scarf in a knot, tie it to a bag, or wrap it around your shoulders and you’ve successfully created a hot outfit in cold circumstances.
- Practical + Stylish Belts
-
Belts: the most basic of basics in a closet, are often the crucial piece that gets lost in the chaos. Just imagine: blue jeans and a blank T-shirt. By simply adding a belt, whether it’s black, brown or even a pop of red, you can then match other items with your belt. The hardest part now is just deciding whether you want your belt thin or thick.
- Elevating Hair With Headbands
-
My absolute favorite item in a closet isn’t technically with the clothes, but I guarantee almost every girl has one with their hair supplies: a headband. Put the headband in the middle of your hair, with a couple of front pieces framing your face. Not only does it serve as a missing piece to a fully curated outfit, but it’s also practical for styling hair cutely in a short amount of time!
- Cared For Nails
-
I will never say this enough; it doesn’t matter if you recently got a whole fresh set or have some leftover colored polish in your drawer; they both look beautiful. Even having cleaned up your nails with a clear coat gives your look an elegant finish, matching the whole autumn aesthetic. Matching the outfit’s different aspects and details pulls everything together.Â
Fall is my absolute favorite season. Football games, reuniting with family over holidays and especially feeling your absolute best while going out for the day. I know it can be stressful planning outfits, especially when you feel like you need to break the bank to pull it off. Take a look in your closet, and I’m sure you can find these five items to make any outfit Pinterest- and Instagram-worthy.
