Accesories can add so much to an outfit. They can turn even the simplest outfits into a statement and add elegance. Theres such a variety of accessories to choose from, it’s impossible to not find a few staple pieces that speak to you and fit your personality.
When starting to dive deep into the art of accessorizing, it’s easy to get lost so here are some tips, tricks and ideas for what to add to your closet:
Jewelry: Theres a variety of types of jewelry to choose from. The first step is to decide which color looks best on you, silver or gold. There are some subcategories such as white gold, rose gold, etc. It’s not necessary to pick, wearing silver and gold jewelry isn’t some sort of fashion crime, it’s just a common preference. Some girls prefer silver, and some prefer gold. Beyond silver and gold there’s more personal things such as having a chain or length preference for your bracelets and necklaces. Earring size is another thing, do you prefer simple studded earrings, thick hoop earrings or chunkier earrings? these are a few questions and things to consider when buying jewelry.
Hairstyles and Headbands/Hairpins: While it’s easy for your signature style to be a messy bun or to wear it out, matching your hairstyle to the vibe of your outfit can do wonders. Going on a date? Maybe a curly bun with bangs and some flower pins is the go. Got invited to a friend’s hangout? Put your hair into a cute ponytail using a claw clip that matches the color of your outfit. Wearing hair accessories not only brings attention to your hairstyle but adds more shape to your silhouette. A cute hairdo can be upgraded with even cuter hair accessories. The next time you finish your hairstyle ask yourself, do i have any hair pins that make this cuter? Any matching headbands?
Belts: Adding a belt is the easiest way to add a bit more color to an outfit. It can be studded, or a corset belt works too. A belt can pull an outfit together and bring attention to the entire outfit instead of just bits and pieces. Practicality can also be considered, does the outfit need a belt or is the belt just a prop? There isn’t a right option, it’s just important to keep in mind when buying a belt, the cuter the belt the less likely it is that it is functional.
Bags: Picking a bag that’s both practical and matches your outfit can be a struggle, at least for me. That’s whys it’s important to have bags with more neutral colors such as white, black or brown and that vary in sizes that way you’ll have an accompanying bag for any situation from a study date to a night out with the girls.
Throwing on a few necklaces, bracelets and rings isn’t what makes the outfit though. You have to find what fits your style and personality. It’s easy to stand out by wearing whatever’s trending, what’s an accessory’s worth if it eventually goes out of style? When the trend is over, they’ll just sit in your jewelry holder, and you don’t want that. You want to find things that fit your personal style, even if it goes against the norms.
Everyones staple is different, finding yours is important. Whether it’s only wearing gold jewelry, pearl headbands or flower earrings, the options are limitless. When people look at you, what’s the first thing they’re going to see? What do you want them to notice within your outfit? All the things that match it and by extension you. Pair a leather jacket with a matching or, even better, a contrasting bag! Accessorizing is truly about doing what speaks to you and makes you feel great in your outfits.
Accessories go beyond just jewelry and bags. It’s what phone case and theme you have, the hairstyles you wear or what kind of headphones you wear. Anything about you that shows your personality counts as an accessory. At least in my book!
