When it comes to being authentic, the world we live in may judge you for it. Social media has taken pride in influencing people to be someone other than themselves. By using filters, trends, and even famous influencers, people can portray someone that their not. However, certain individuals go against social media and stay true to who they are. I believe this shows confidence and defines authenticity in a society filled with personas and judgmental people.
Being authentic means not letting what others say about you hold you back from being who you are or what you like to do. Social media gives people the platform to post their lives and often people can cyberbully and be negative towards their lifestyle. This can make you feel embarrassed, ashamed, and even make you want to fit in, so people won’t look at you differently. Although, when you’re authentically yourself, you ignore the negative opinions or remind yourself that it’s okay to be unique and keep pushing yourself to stay true to who you are.
When it comes to staying authentically you, stay consistent with what you believe in, give yourself grace, and understand it’s okay to be imperfect. Staying consistent with what you believe in means no matter what the majority may think, stick to your beliefs. When it comes to giving yourself grace, understand that it’s okay to make mistakes and you shouldn’t beat yourself up about it. Being imperfect means accepting your flaws and knowing that having flaws is normal. Authenticity is a good attribute to have and though it’s rare to see, more people should be themselves and stop letting the pressure of social media define who they are.
