Fad-ulous Current Trends

I’m not a professional, but I consider myself fairly up-to-date on the latest trends and crazes.

As a college student who’s conscious of their consumption habits and on a budget, here are some of my favorite and “worth-it” current trends.

As more and more people adopt the Y2K style, my favorite activity has been scouring Depop for secondhand items I can add to my collection. Also, looking in my own closet, I’ve discovered that many pieces I used to think were outdated now seem amazingly new!

As someone who loves to pack everything she owns on a regular day, an oversized bag is one of my favorite things to carry. Who knows when you’ll need water, lip balm, or anything else you can fit inside? With bigger bags becoming a trend, I have been loving scoping out local thrift stores to see what Mary Poppins-esque bags they have.

Another favorite trend is Mary Jane shoes. Seeing so many cute brands make loafers and other styles, I’ve been wanting to try out different colors and pairs. A brand that has piqued my interest is Rothy’s. They’ve made many commitments to sustainability; everything from their packaging to the materials they use.

Living in such a fast-fashion and trend-based society, I always feel so tempted to run to the store just to keep up, forgetting what I already own and use. As you start to see new trends and fads pop up, I encourage you to try to be sustainable (and cute) by thrifting. Do some research on the stores you currently buy from, buy second-hand, or even repurpose clothing you already own.

There are so many little commitments we can make to give back to the environment, while still staying up to date with our style and accessories.

Fashion doesn’t always require a brand-new tag!
