With midterm season fast approaching, it can be hard to balance enough time studying for each exam. Asking for help from professors can be scary and studying with friends sometimes doesn’t work for everyone, especially when your majors aren’t the same. Here are some great tips and tricks to help you out during the “spooky season” of midterms!
FInd the perfect study spot
No matter what topic you’re studying for, it’s important to find a space where you feel your best and most prepared to study! The library is a great spot to study, but sometimes it can be overwhelming during midterm and finals seasons since everyone else has the same idea. Finding a quiet room that you can book in the library can be a great option for those of us who like to be able to lay all our material out and take over the room. It can also be great to book a room for you and your classmates to study together and not disturb others. Another great spot for studying is your local coffee shop, just make sure to bring some noise canceling headphones to avoid any sound distraction. It can be a nice break from the library to go out and grab a coffee as a treat for all the hard work you’re doing studying! No matter where you decide is your perfect study spot, just make sure it feels right for you!
manage each exam separately
It can be really hard when you have all your midterms in the same week, but it’s really important to manage your time in a way that works for you and gets all your material covered. Try planning out your studying the week before so you’re not struggling to find time for each exam. Breaking down each day for a different exam can help you feel less overwhelmed and let you go at your own pace each day. For those of us who also work during these busy weeks, it can be really helpful to have your studying time planned out the week before so you’re not struggling to find time before class and after work. Build a schedule that feels best for you and allow yourself time to take a breath in between exams.
Take enough time for yourself
During midterm season, it can be really hard to find a balance between classes, studying, and work. It is important that you don’t allow yourself to fall into a hole where you’re only studying and don’t feel like you have any time for yourself. In between classes and study time, try to organize a time where you and your friends can all get together and decompress for a hour. You are all going through the same midterm stress, so it’s important to check in on one another. However, while it’s important to check on your friends, it’s also even more important to check in with yourself. If you feel like you’re in a constant cycle of work, class, and studying with no end in sight, take a break and do something for yourself. Even if it’s something as simple as going for a walk or grabbing a treat, it’s important to take a breath and give yourself some time to recharge. Also, just because it’s crazy midterm season that does not mean you should be sacrificing your sleep. Pulling an all-nighter might sound like the only way to get through all of your work, but I promise it is not worth it. You’ll end up going into your exam exhausted and in worse shape than if you hadn’t studied at all. Plan your studying and make sure you get your sleep!
Midterm season can be an extremely stressful time for students, but if you take the time to prioritize yourself and build good study habits, you will be set up for success!
