My Go-To Comfort Movies

Ever since I was a child, I’ve always loved movies. I would sit in front of my portable DVD player and watch whatever movie I could find in my family’s DVD case. One of my favorites was any sort of Barbie movie, specifically, Barbie Mermaidia. While I still love those movies and watch them occasionally, I now have a new selection of favorite movies that I consider my comfort movies. No matter what’s going on in my life, whether I feel sad or unmotivated, I watch one of my comfort movies, and my whole day begins to get better. Here are my favorites!

  1. Just Go With It

If you ask any one of my friends or family members what my favorite movie is, they will 100% say Just Go With It. I love this movie so much as it has never failed to make me laugh (and cry). This movie is about Danny Macabee, played by Adam Sandler, who is trying to find love after being cheated on on his wedding day. Katherine, played by Jennifer Aniston, is his assistant who is forced to help him connect with a girl he just met. While Adam Sandler is my favorite actor, I would still love this movie if he didn’t play the main character. I have probably watched this movie over 20 times, and it never gets old. It ends in the best way possible, and it will forever be my favorite. If you ever have an hour and fifty-five minutes to spare, I highly suggest you go watch it!

  1. Tangled

While any sort of Disney princess movie is a comfort movie for me, Tangled is most definitely my favorite. Rapunzel has always been my favorite Disney princess, so in a way it makes me feel like a kid again. I love watching this when I’m stressed about work or class. After watching it, I always feel so much better and much more relaxed. I think it’s the way that everything worked out for Rapunzel, so I like to apply that to whatever my current life situation is. It’s so easy to get stressed and overwhelmed by life, so realizing that everything will work out always reassures me.

  1. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

The relationship between Peter Kavinsky and Lara Jean is such a stereotypical high school romance, but I love it! This movie shows how their relationship grew, but also how they grew separately as individual people. Lara Jean started as the shy “unnoticed” girl in school, and while she didn’t care too much about popularity, she began to come out of her shell with the help of Peter. I love a good cheesy romance, especially ones where the main characters are relatable. While I never wrote a love letter before like Lara Jean, I can understand what it’s like to not be “popular” and wanting to stay in your own bubble. There is so much that happens in this movie, but it continues to hold the plot of a romantic comedy. There are two additional movies that continue the story of Lara Jean that are just as good!

  1. Book Club

I have always questioned what my life would be like at the age of 60. I’ve always wondered what I should be doing now to set myself up for the future. Though by watching Book Club I realise that it doesn’t matter and our lives can change so much as we get older. This movie follows the lives of four long-time friends, Diane, Vivian, Sharon, and Carol. The four of them have a book club, where they find themselves reading a new book that completely changes their perspective on life. They meet new people and rekindle old relationships. Each of their stories is different and so beautiful. While there is a lot of deeper meaning to this movie, it constantly makes me laugh out loud.

Each one of these movies has deeply influenced my life and will always hold a special place in my heart. While I know some people might feel the complete opposite, that’s okay! The reasons that we love specific movies are personal and up to our own opinion and life experiences, and that’s what makes movies so special.
